Wah, Nask, you are really a very experienced mummy. Your girl must be really prepared for P1 by the time she got in. πŸ˜„ Thank you so much for your wonderful advice

          Thanks for your advice, nansk!!

I truly agree with u that reading is important as it can help them recognize words and build their vocab!

I visited the blends phonics website which you recommended. Couldn’t found any audio aid. I worry my pronunciation may be wrong as I did no learn phonics before.

Hi ,you can use the http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/stub online and they can listen to the sound which i did for my girl. πŸ˜„
So far my girl had shown improvement in her phonics, heard from her teacher.
Nansk, thanks for sharing your tips and advice.

Oh, is it higher chinese? I thought kellock is using normal chinese textbook not higher chinese.

Sorry, junemum; I have no idea about the Chinese textbooks; I can ask the form teacher for you.

Claire79, for phonics, see if you find this useful:

                    1. Consonants that make one sound

                    b, d, f, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, r, v, w, qu (as in queer), y (as in yak)

                    2. Consonants that make more than one sound

s (as in see), s says z (as in as or is), s says sh (as in sure)
g says juh (as in gym), g says guh (as in go)
c says ss (as in city), c says kuh (as in cut)

                    3. Vowel sounds (2-4 sounds per vowel)

a, as in hat, late, ask, ball
                    e, as in met, he
                    i, as in pit, find
o, as in not, note, move
u, as in but, music, put
                    y, as in pity, sky

Once you understand these sounds, you can just follow the Blend Phonics lessons. Do 5 words a day if that is all your dd can manage. Just write a word on a paper and have her read it out slowly from left to right. Don't make her write anything if she is not willing.

You may also have your dd work through the online activities on http://www.starfall.com.
