Dear All
I very much wanted to register my son for Beacon under Phase 2C (staying within 1km) for next year Primary 1.
How high will be the chance of getting a place under this phase of registration?
If there is risk of not getting it, I will need to consider to register him under Phase 2A(2) at Pei Chun Primary School in Toa Payoh. However, I do have hesitation as it is very far from Bukit Panjang and he will need to spend alot of time on travelling.
Appreciate very much for your advice. Thank you. -
Hi…hwee2
If I am not wrong, for this year batch of P1, there was a ballot for those students under Phase 2C (staying within 1km). My son, now in P2, enters the school also by the Phase 2C, but there was no balloting during that time.
Hope this help.
Hmm…I think it is better for the student to stay nearer to the school (esp for primary sch student). As parents we must take also into consideration, beside the daily traveling time, if there are other extra activities that the child need to go or leave school earlier or later than usual…than we have to arrange other transport/fetching/sending for the child. Events can be like supplementary classes, remedial classes, school events, the child fall sick, the ECA in the future…in all these events, I am not so sure the school transport will be there for the child. Then there are future enrichment classes, swimming lessons, tuition lessons…if you want your child to go to…these will "eat-up" large amount of time daily and leaving your child with not much time left each day with you or homework. It may seems feasible to travel a longer distance to go to a certain school at the lower primarys but when the child reach the upper levels…it is going to be a big tussle. -
Hi hwee2,
I agree with concerneddad on this - for primary children, it's better that schools be as close to home as possible. With more schools going to become single session, this will mean early wake-ups. Also I have seen many schools having extended curriculum time atleast once a week (maybe more for upper primary) and then once they get to P3, there's CCA to take into account.
As for BCPS, this year will be difficult to judge since there will be 2 ballots for a Singaporean child as compared to one in previous years.
IMO, why don't you go down to the school one of these days and talk to them, they should be the best judge.
Hope this helps

Dear Parents
Thank you for your advice. I think I will need to consider a 2nd school, just in case he can’t get in Beacon. -

Zhenghua also can since there’s always avail slots after phase 2c.
As a reference… -
Phase 2A1 was concluded yesterday (6 July) and Beacon still has 127 slots out of the total 240. I plan to register my son in Beacon under Phase 2C, and the excitement is starting to build up.
I’ve heard a lot of good feedback about Beacon and I do hope my son gets to go there. We live 1.6km away but I am pinning my hope on the new policy that Singapore citizens will get priority in allocation of places…
