E3:
the only tricky part for 汉语拼音 was to remember the 上上音词语 with both chars at third sounds, for e.g 老虎, 蚂蚁, 雨伞 etc. The child has to remember to indicate the third sound for the first char although it's read as the second sound (阳平).
Thanks E3, this is new to me. The only HYPY rule I know so far is the 轻声 (hope I wrote this one correctly, cannot everytime tio suan
). DS taught me this when I questioned him why he forgot to add the 'sound' on top of the hanzi recently.

Thanks jennifer, we had no choice cos he was really struggling with phonics.
we r thinking of asking an aunt who's a teacher if she will b keen. If not, i'll pm u for the contact. Thanks!! -
Jennifer:
Yes, Jennifer has a point there. I make sure that that DD has a knowledge of HYPY before P1. Whether she is strong in it or not, I am not sure as I decide to teach her myself. (I don't even know what is HYPY till I heard from from my friends). I don't even know what E3 said about 上上音词语 and Markf said about 轻声. So I just embark upon it. Hence I am very pleased when she had became better than me. So if anyone interested to know which type of resources that I use, let me know. In the process, I save $$$Mrsbongz:
oh well..I am finally seeking external help. :stupid: before its too late
These days, before starting P1, a child shld hv a strong foundation in HYPY before starting P1. Reason being there are so many kiasu parents who sent their children for such HYPY during presch years. The pri sch teachers teach so quickly as they assume the class already know. If a child needs special assistance due to medical reasons, it can be an uphill to only start learning HYPY in P1.
But HYPY is not as difficult as it seems. Get a competent tutor to assist the child. This is only Feb now. More impt to learn HYPY well to prepare for the end of year exam. Nevermind the mid year results.
The CL tuition centre my P4 boy is attending has such HYPY classes. The class size is small too, very suitable for weaker children. PM me if you need the contact.
So take heart, parents, you can teach HYPY (beginner) if you want to (assuming that you can read chinese word with 'correct' intonation, great help) -

Mine only did the P4. Her CL tr did not ask them to attempt P5 section. I find it meaningless if they are not being taught before they attempt such questions.

As for HYPY, I started mine at K2 too. Before that only, hanzi. Taught her myself with the sheng mu first. We recited the b,p,m,f..... during and after bath. Then once she mastered them, we match each sheng mu varying yun mu and make the yin-yang-shang-qu 4 sounds. The shang shang yin ci yu, I made it a rule for her, but I did not draw out a list of them. If she sees 2 shang(3rd) sound, she knows the 1st will go ying (2nd). Plus, of course, the 4 rules to know which yun mu to place the sound and when to omit the 2 dots on 'u' etc. For HYPY, I prefer to teach her by blending each sheng mu and yun mu. School is teaching them by recognising the whole HYPY. I find blending helps to make out the sound when she encounters one she seldom use. -

markfch:
Thank you, markfch. Like XYZ1, my ds said there was no CL spelling so far, be it HYPY or Hanzhi. Can't help on the timetable but for Int 8, ds told me that CL spelling is on an adhoc basis.
CL teacher will inform in advance if there is one. For Int 8, there is no pre-defined CL spelling list like in eng. Should be the same for Int 10 rite?
Aiyo, very lost ever since ds goes P1. Reading recent posts here makes me feel even more seven up eight down! You have even started your ds with Science! -

You are right! da mu zhi only has works for P5/6. I heard from her that she did only P4 work, but never (bother to) hear 2nd part of her sentence. My girl did the P4 from her last year zhishihuabao, the P4 CL/higher CL section.
The Da Mu Zhi which my boy brought back yesterday only contains exercises for P5 and P6. I am thinking whether they got the wrong version.IJJ:
