Hi, my son is in P1 now. During the P1 orientation, u can check up the transport services there. Based on my last yr experience, they won't able to tell u the exact route yet. They could do so only before the start of of the following year, so they need to finalise how many students wld be engaging for their services.Good Morning to All, my son will be in P1 next year (2010). :celebrate:
I am new to the Primary school education system, hope to learn from the experienced parents what are the things to look out here. TIA.
Cheers! :rahrah:
1st Qns: Does anyone know the school bus transport service schedule and charges from Bishan to Rosyth? What is the bus route if possible? TQ.
I believe the rate shd be ard $80. -

For my ds P1 class, the teacher focuses on team-work & leadership skills.hi all,
my dd will be in P1 next year also..
i am still wondering will she be able to cope in P1.
:?
Almost every child will be asssigned as a leader for something ... and this will rotate almost every term.
For English, it is focus on more interaction-type, hence there is really no textbook to follow.
My ds used to be a very reserved child , in front of teachers or strangers.
However, he has been coping very well here, and enjoys his class very much.. but got to hear lots of complaints abt this \"leader\", and that \" leader\". Seems as if he is the only perfect one around..

Hello,
I’m new here. Thought I may share my 2-cents worth about Rosyth.
Welcome to Rosyth. My dd has many wonderful years because every single teacher she had for the core subjects has been wonderful. She does not like the discipline part because it makes the school atmosphere pretty uptight at times. I guess that is necessary, to a certain extend. The principal formally from Chong Fu Pri and quite the ‘cheena’ type. Must bow to her when they see her but most of them don’t care. She promotes mostly CCA pertaining to music and dance. She also brought folk dancing and wushu from her ex-school over to Rosyth. Rosyth used to be popular in TaeKwoDo, Chess but new principal has her own ‘babies’ to take care of. Actually, she’s not new, should be 5 years in 2010.
As parents, we don’t feel comfortable with her. She’s a very uptight person. During a talk on preparing PSLE for P6, she kept talking about her clean school toilets. During a P1 orientation, she kept interrupting the teachers who were presenting some information to the parents. She’s always trying to impress and we’re still yet to see her keeping to her ‘body, mind and soul’ mission.
Hope a new principal will come soon. Rosyth is a great school with a team of very experienced teachers. The principal before, Elizabeth Chan was a more compassionate, sincere and friendly lady.
Don’t worry, heard principal tenure is 5-7 yrs, hope new one come soon. Teachers more important and the kids are in good hands.
My sister, an ex-teacher for many years told me don’t judge the school by it’s branding. Evert school has it’s ‘dark side’. We enjoy the good and manage the bad. All will pass…
Rosyth practices alot of collaborative learning. Kids at lower primary do alot group work to learn to get along with those they like and don’t like. They learn to help those who are weaker and learrn from those who are stronger in their work. They pick up some lfe-skills this way.
Streaming happpens at P3 and only based on Math and Eng results (not sure about now, you must check). Another kudos to Rosyth is that they try to lessen the elitist mindset in smart kids by not putting the top 40 in 1st class. They take top 80, grade them in order and put one kid alternately in each class. This way, the 1st class is not the best. The 1st 2 classes is, does this help? Ha! I guess it helps a little. Interestingly, people still have the impression that Integrity is the top 40.
Another great thing about Rosyth is it’s military style security. Our children are so safe inside the school. Someone told me Mr Singh, the ops mgr was an ex-police inspector. No wonder.
The school is quite moderate in homework. If the kids have difficulty coping, it’s usually because of their extra tuition and activities outside of school. So, try not to stress them. This is only the 1st step of a thousand miles. Help them to enjoy the journey.
All the best! -
Gruffalo, thanks for your informative post on this school. Altho my dd is not studying there, I find it interesting to read about other schools.
Rosyth is not among those schools getting a new principal next year. Many IJs are including CHIJ Toa Payoh. Some of the other schools are Ai Tong, Tao Nan and Nanyang. -
ya I agree they have a group of very good and experience teachers but of course there are a few that are hated by the kids  anyway I think it happens in every schools.. some good ones and some bad ones..

dd is in p1 this yr. I had first hand encountered during p1 registration in 2008 and when school re-opened in jan this year. Was barred by him entering the tuckshop to buy food after registration and \"told\" by him to take stairs instead of lift to the hall
May I know what's the names of the top 2 classes in rosyth? All their names are rather long .... -
hi can any parent tell me what is 'I CARE CHAMPION' in rosyth and how one is qualified for it? thanks
