Not too sure about the system of screening. Maybe other parents can shed light on this. School has a generally caring environment, so I think your girl will settle in
quite soon. -
Hi dark chocolate, tks for the update on P3 session thing. No wonder no official announcement from school yet. My girl is so used to sleep late and get up late. Time to change if P3 goes AM. Good.
Hi Chatwomen, welcome to Poi Ching. Not too worry. Just need to keep up with Chinese. Generally speaking, Poi Ching Chinese is quite advanced. English, math paper is not as challenging comparing to Chinese. Homework will be manageable once your kid’s handwriting skill improves.
Culture wise, quite balanced. -
Hi Gabby and ululu,
Thanks! I feel more reassured now hearing your feedback. It’s quite scary to think about the transition from kindy to primary school. It’s a big milestone! -
My gal is in P1 this year, she has homework everyday except Monday cause Monday is a no homework day for her class, however, the work load is very light and manageable.
From my experience, I believe the school did not do screening based on their performance, they group them based on their birth month, my girl’s class most of them are born in July and Aug, so almost every alternate day in Jul and Aug she bring home some goodies bag coz the classmates celebrating bday.
My gal really like the school very much, she enjoys all the lessons and have adapt to the culture very well, though she was from a catholic kiddy and have less interest in Mandarin before this, she can pick up very fast. Since the school has a very high standard chinese and my gal can cope very well, i didnt send her for chinese tuition. On the other hand, i send her for English enrichment and math tuition, coz I worried that the school’s std of these 2 subject might be lower, just my own tot… -

The school seems to have lots of assessments for P2. I have difficulty coping with all his revision. Sigh!

Ya, same here. Chinese revision is a disaster. My boys forgot most of the words. It is impossible to understand all the 词语 and yet they are tested. Then there is compo and diff types of oral. Next English, haven't finished revising stellar worksheets, then realised there is HM ones too. Then realised that need to go thru spelling lists just to answer 2 editing qns which is 1 mark each. Oh mine! I thot people say P1 n P2 are honeymoon?
Can't imagine what's after P2. -
