Heard that Geylang Methodist Pri standard has dropped? It is no longer as good as the last time?

Among the three schools, GMPS is a Methodist school, CCPS is a Convent (Catholic) school and Cedar is non-religious. Standard wise, these schools are about the same. GMPS has 240 students in P1 and still operates two sessions while both CCPS and CPS have intake of only 120 students and single session. If you do not mind the value added stuff in GMPS and CCPS, I think any of the school is just as good. -
Hi hi, my daughter is in P5 this year... Put it this way, I really did see some improvement in terms of the teachers trying to get parents more involved but but in terms of results, I am still waiting la...

Hi da_bin, have you decided on the school yet?I will be registering in P1 this year. I am deciding between Cedar Primary and Canossa Convent Primary.
Like to check from the parents here, are there really improvement in Cedar Primary under the new principal?
Can anyone share the good and bad of the school?
And can anyone share the PSLE result for 2014?
I am staying at our parents place @ Potong Pasir and faced the same problem as you (our own house is at AMK though)..
Our first choice then was Hong Wen School but as a result, the responses were too overwhelmed.
We attended Cedar's open house last year and has bad impression on it.
Our second choice is actually CCPS (we doesn't like Bendemeer Pri school either).
End up, we gave CCPS up too and we went for Marymount Convent (MCS) which apparently is further (not too far though) but I would say it is better than CCPS in terms of the outlook

Hi Selene665,
Yeah. We had registered at Paya Lebar methodist girl school instead. Luckily this year there is no balloting for 1-2 km, and hence we got in! We are really overjoyed.
Actually, before that, my relatives had told me that Marymount Convent is quite good and there are quite a no. of vacanies and asked me to consider too.
We should be happy getting into the school we want. hahaha -
Coming from a boy who recently graduated from Cedar in 2014, I will say that the school’s PSLE results did fairly well. If I recall, 1 went to RI, about 6-7 went to Cedar Girls, 4-5 went to PLMGS as well as to CCHMS, 2 went to NCHS, 6-7 to Zhonghua and around 8 to SASS(mainly normal stream) and 2 to CAT high. Majority of the boys went to St Gabs (like me :p).
As for Ms De Souza, she is more academic-oriented than the previous principal, Mrs Sharon Siew. I don’t really know much about her as I was under her for only 2 years, but what I heard from the SJI junior students in my church that she is a good principal.
Many students, around 40%, are from the nearby gurkha camp. In terms of academics, they are not really the brightest but they are very friendly.(however, they are loud, so ur child maybe influenced by them)
The teachers are not very good, and from what i heard there has been a recent influx in new teachers but there are still some experienced teachers.
There are not a whole lot of CCAs to choose from, but the best cca is Soccer. The student council is very biased and people who are chosen are teacher pets. (For instance, my years president who transferred at around primary 5, was chosen to be a student councillor in primary 6 and elected as president around 2 months later :/)
My experience in cedar isn’t very memorable but I did make very good friends. But if I had a chance to choose my primary school, Cedar wouldn’t really be in the top of my choices. -
If anyone needs questions, I'll gladly help !

My son has been in this school for 6 years and if I had a choice, I wouldnt put him in school again! First 2 years, I already keep on complaining about the teacher already.
His P3,4 and 5 teachers are so much better. But P6 the most important year never keep in touch with me… call me only to complain about my son, and never find out the behind story. So i called up to leave a msg for the teacher to call me back, but no call from her. Last month there is a workshop talking about what the P6 students will be learning, I cant go over to his school as we were staying in Punggol, and my girl is in one of the school in Punggol I have to fetch her from school. And also impossible to bring her along all the way to Macpherson right? My girl has her homework to do and she will be really tired if still have to go over to Macpherson.
So i left a msg for the teacher to called me to briefly let me know about what they will be learning. Also never call. I gave up already. I also dun wanna argue or complain anymore… if not the teacher can just ignore my son work, and tats it! Anyway this is the last year in that school, I just tell my son to focus what teacher teach can already.
