Hi all,
We are currently staying in sembawang/yishun area. In a dilemma whether to just send our girl to the nearby neighborhood school or MCS as we see alot of positive feedback on MCS from this forum.
1. How does MCS fare in terms of curriculum (academic) and co-curriculum?
2. How are the teachers and environment in MCS? Is it stressful? Reason is we want our girl to enjoy schooling and learning.
3. Compare to neighborhood schools around sembawang/yishun any difference?
4. Any parents staying in sembawang/yishun sending their kids to MCS at the moment?
I realize that the school is not easily accessible using public transport (bus and MRT). Need to walk quite a distance from the nearest MRT, Caldecott (Unable to cut through upon coming out from Caldecott station). As for the nearest bus stop, I believe itβs a distance away.
Appreciate feedback and comments on the above. Thanks in advance. -
Hi SoYouThink
I am having the same doubts as you as I am staying at Sembawang are and wanted so much to send my girl (my one & only) to MCS in 2018. Reg should starts soon i perhaps, like in 1 or 2 months time and we are still contemplating. Friends & family find us crazy why take the troubles to send her to a sch that is so far away from where we stay (if we choose MCS we will have to send her to sch and she will be at student care after that until i fetch her after work).
But by reading so many positive feedback in this forum, i just cannot stop imagine my girl in MCS next year already
and she also has been influenced by us and telling everybody she's going MCS next yr..
If anyone/any kind soul :imanangel: who has their children in MCS now & is currently staying in Sembawang/Yishun, please share your view/comments ya. :thankyou:

hi, i planning to enroll my daughter to mcs next year as she's born in 2011 ... both my wife & kid is still foreigner status as just married this year
... what will be my chances under phase 3 registration? 2nd thing is both eng & chinese are not her native language (will plan to give some eng/chinese enrichment class for her), will the school carry out some assessment ? thanks for any feedback -
for Foreigner status children :-
It is MOE handling the allocation of remaining vacancies left, in our Sg local primary schools, after Phase 2C Supplementary (applicable only to SC & PR children) have ended.
if Foreigner child fail to get a place in local school during P1 Registration -
the child can attempt to take AEIS test, when the child is in Primary 2. This test is conducted by MOE.
You may inquire more info about how to take Primary 2 AEIS test, from MOE website, or call up MOE directly, to find out more :-
https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/international-students/admissions-exercise
If both English & Chinese are not your child's native language, you may also contact MOE for advice : what can be possibly be your child's Mother Tongue ? MOE will be able to advise you.
Eg
Suppose your child is from Thailand, Vietnam or Mymmar. MOE can advise parents which Mother Tongue, your child can possibly take, to study in our local primary schools. Do contact MOE, for advice. Thanks. -

1. Given that your child has a foreigner status, you can't plan to enrol here, there or anywhere. You can only wait for MOE announcement on the schools with vacancy at the start of Phase 3.
2. As for your chances, I would say generally not so good, and that's just for securing a place in Primary 1, not even specifically referring to MCS, which is probably even lower. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/more-expats-find-it-tough-to-get-kids-into-local-schools estimate that around 1/3 of the expats / foreigners are able to secure a place in the local school. Better brace yourself for impact and start sourcing around for an International School.
3. The school does not carry out any assessment of her language capabilities prior to starting school if you enrol via the P1 registration exercise. -
also to add on, with reference to above article, concerning \"Global Indian International\" school -
http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/more-expats-find-it-tough-to-get-kids-into-local-schools
my colleague told me that her P1 son (foreigner status) this year (2017), currently studying at \"Global Indian International\" school :
the school fees there (at International school) had increased to around $1,500 per month, from $1,100 (previously mentioned in above article, when it was printed last year 2016).
for Mother Tongue : her P1 son is currently taking Tamil, in this International school. -

You must register this year. If you put her into another year of K-2, the only way she can get into Primary School is via the AEIS, which is extremely difficult. Your chances of getting into P1 via Phase 3, while not good, are far higher than getting into P2 via the AEIS. You need to ask to join the closed Facebook group Singapore Expats in Local Schools. Read the Pinned Post first before posting any questions. There is a lot of information there. They are planning a get together soon for those trying to enrol in Phase 3. Some foreigner kids did get into Marymount last year in Phase 3. But the school may be more popular this year because it has moved back from the holding site. Frankly, Mother Tongue is the least of your problems right now. My granddaughter is a PR looking to enrol in Marymount. Just inside 2ks. Not sure what the chances will be.

Just go for it! There is no other girls' school that is so easy to enrol into if you are residing in Yishun/Sembawang/Woodlands. Learning in a purely girls environment does have the added advantage. Good luck and all the best. I will only reply to this post and one advice to give is grab the chance to enrol in Phase 2C.

I would say your granddaughter's chance is very good as long as she applies in Phase 2C.
Marymount is unlikely to ballot in P2C as people living around the area is most likely going for CHIJ TP / Pei Chun / Kheng Cheng / Ai Tong / Catholic High as their number one choice. Marymount has always been seen as a back up school in Phase 2CS (albeit for girls only). It has never balloted in P2C for so many years and given how things are going thus far, that is unlikely to change this year.
