Hi KJBBB
I’m in exactly the same shoes as u. I’m also an old girl, both pri and sec who lives in Yishun and will be registering my girl for P1 next year for 2012 intake.
I’m also concerned about the distance cos I’m sure she’ll be in the bus for at least an hr looking at the distance. I’m also considering St Nichs since it’s nearer but chances of getting in a close to zero at phase 2C.
Mind sharing which sch is your son currently in? I prefer a girls sch for my daughter hence didn’t take into consideration the schs in Yishun.
Cheers! -

For the past several years, Marymount had more than enough places to accommodate those registering in phase 2C.Hi! any mummies out there registering at MCS in 2010 ,2nd August?

So IMO, you shouldn't worry too much. -

Many students come from Yishun. there is direct bus 851 ... i always see morning bus full with 'Green color' uniform. It should take about 40 mins... Going back should be even less time in afternoon....Hi all,
Need your guidance
Am looking at MCS as 1st choice for my gal next yr P1 as I used to be from the sec school batch. My only concern is that she may get really tired as I am staying in Yishun. Will distance matter? My son is studying at the so call best sch in Yishun but nothing impressive nor worth anything to talk. My gals are definitely not going that sch though is much nearer. I am looking at MCS and another neighbourhood sch in Yishun who has proven results and not self-declared like my son's school.
Looking forward to your expertise
I say 'Go' for it... It is worth six years of hassel...My DD started slow was in third best class until Pri 4 which is time things turn around with help of teachers & got in to good Secondary school
will have chance to go to better sec school. -
Hi DadofGirl
You mentioned your daughter is in the 3rd best class. My daughter is currently in P2. I understand the best class is B and 2nd best is D.
How do we tell which is the 3rd best class?
Also, you mentioned you daughter started to turn things around with the help of the teachers at P4 and manage to go to a good secondary school. Care to share with us your good experience with this school please ?
Thanks -

Yes Best Class is B & Second best is D. She was moved to D class at the end of P4 streaming, so we assumed that she was in Third best class in P4. It was E i guess. Will confirm...Hi DadofGirl

School has very good teachers in P5-P6. As you probably know P5 maths is a big jump from P4. Generally student will not do well in P5-CA1/SA1 , if there is no extra efforts. MCS has extra classes for to cater to this.
Also English tradition is continuing , so if your DD is good ( Like mine) in languages..A*/A is definnitely possible at PSLE... They have extra external tutor for P6 starting a week earlier in mid-term break..English dept has two/three teachers really know what it takes to break PSLE english myth...
Just to summrize , school assign good teachers to D class as well & if you could make it to that class... PSLE score of 236 & above is possible with efforts from parents.. Then can go to girls-only school like Tanjong Katong Girls school.... -
Thanks, this is very good info.
My girl is only 2nd year (P2) with the school and though she is not with the 2 best class, her teachers have been very encouraging and very patient. I have seen a marked improvement in her academics too.
It is very comforting to know that MCS has a lot of good teachers and making every effort to help the girls to achieve good academic results. -

When we registered , we got in admission after failed attempt at Raffels(Balloting in 2003)...it is not possible today... though there may not be balloting , very few places are left for last phase...Indication that school is getting better every year. Thanks, this is very good info.

P2 is too early to say where your DD in P4- Streaming...It is only based on one year of grades. Important thing is to Peak at right time... P4-5-6. Just let her enjoy her studies & CCA( Make attempt to get her into good CCA , as it is very informal way gettign in .. Net ball is their star CCA)
Parent encouragement is key( Fake it even if you are Garang internally !) thought i do empathize with parent becoming kenchong! -
Haha, fake it…that’s funny.
Actually, I have a younger DD who is due to register this year for P1 in 2011. I have completed PVG with Raffles thus able to register under P2B
Now I am having 2nd thought, that is to give up Raffles and register my younger DD together with the sister in MCS reason being I do see the holistic environment that MCS is providing. Plus I understand from the parents who child in Raffles does not provide any form of enrichments or support to the girls.
For me, support from the school is very important and like what you said kids excel at various stages. With good support from teachers and school, the girls will then be able to excel. -

Raffels girls primary has no affliation with RGS, so there is no benefit for secondary admission & it also is very far. There is talk of moving Raffels girls schools near by Raffels Institution , in such case both MCS & RGP are same in terms of distance.Haha, fake it..that's funny.

RGP will still be good bet & have an year to decide
