You are right that competition comes from everywhere…so a school exam alone is never a good guage of how well a kid is performing. It is always comparative. One year of easy paper should not get parents all too worried. At the same time, I am sure a lot of parents here supplement the school exams with practise paper from other schools exam. That is good enough to help guage how well your kid is doing.
The question for the new principal is what is her plan and vision for the school, in terms of academic excellence, CCA achievements, students behavior/values, etc. Let her show us her plan. This year’s PSLE performance is not her doing…it’s the previous principal’s. -

Chongfu has never been the top top school. It is what I call a mid tier school...reasonably good and with the right help from parents kids can do very well.
So if you are looking for 100% pass....maybe wrong school.
Red Swatika Pri does not achieve its present result over night. the school set the direction and goal to uplift the weaker student to an express stream level. They are not the top top school as well. (express stream is around 200 mark=average 70/subject)
The principle, teachers and parent are the main players in achieving this. By lowering the exam standard is just let everyone living in mirage. the reality will surface when come to national exam.
look at our surrounding, our competition(in the company) come from all over the world, be it low skill, middle and higher level management. the companies will not lower the requirements just to suit singaporean as they are facing competition from all over the world.
I beg to differ with the above comments posted. It is never a fair comparison to compare a SAP school (Red Swastika School) with Chongfu School. For example, although both are government-aid school, but a SAP school like RSS only offers Chinese as the Mother Tongue whereas Chongfu offers Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages.
My boy is in Primary 5 this year and I must say that the SA2 is a fair paper, with a right mix of both basic and challenging questions. A good paper is one that will stretch and prepare the students for national examinations. However, to OVER-Stretched/OVER-test when school go far beyond the syllabus would greatly affect a kid's morale and confidence level. On this, I have faith in the school management (Chongfu as well as like many other schools) and believe that no school will deliberately set easy internal school exams papers that will eventually jeopardize their PSLE results and put their students at risk
My boy has been blessed with very dedicated and committed teachers throughout his education in Chongfu to date. I believe there are many parents like myself who are glad and happy to have our kids studying in Chongfu. :please: -

The overall T scores are lower than last year across all the schools in Singapore. I do not think the principal should be questioned about the results. The school results are based on the cohort and the cohort is different every year.
As for transferred students, it has always been around the same number transferred each year. So that does not explain the lesser number of students with 3A*. There are students with 2A*2A and the T-score is above 250.
So in short, there could be more students with scores above 250 but do not have 3A*.
Also, the average mean score of 220 this year is already an improvement from last year which was 216.6 (as shown in slides during PSLE release last year). The percentage going to express stream has also increased from 79% to 84%.
According to my friend ; Red sawstika achieved 100% to Express . their school put in a lot of effort in building the children to self learning and also set exam according to the school level and PSLE standard. they never lower the exam standard but encourage and teach the children to face the challenges. -

there is another group of parent propose to the school to setup the badminton as another sport CCA. the school turn down and ask the children to learn when they goto secondary. How many children can goto table tennis and Wushu !!!!
the tour of duty of a principle is 5 years. one year pass and 4 more to go. Let see what will happen next year and whether will she share the vision and goal of the school. -
Totally agree that Chongfu has limited choices for CCA.

On the badminton and soccer, I am guessing due to lack of space, the school could not start these two new CCAs. The hall is used by the TT team while the indoor sports hall is used by the wushu team. There is no more space for a soccer field after they erected the school extensions.

Agree... I believe if space and staff deployment is not of a concern, most schools will not reject proposal to start new CCA.

If the school can conduct swimming , than it is a matter of coordination .
there are about 1800 students in CF, more can be done for these children to expose to different sports. it cannot be half hearted if we want our kids to involve in more holistic education.
CF has one more VP in year 2013, staff deployment should not be an excuse. the ex-principle have only 2 VPs , the task were completed. now they have one more VP , more can be done . FYI the annual income of a VP is about $180K. a teacher is about 60K -80K(degree holder ). -
