If it takes 1 hr travelling time to reach the school of your daughter choice
but 1/2 hr for an almost equivalent school, should the child choice takes precedence over the convenience of a shorter travelling time.
Hope to hear your view. -
2ct:
If your daughter is aware of the travelling time, the harssels of taking public transport (crowded, no seats etc.), tiredless after the end of school / CCA / extra lessons which can be in evening time and still insist of her choice, I suppose you can try to accept her decision. If it takes 1 hr travelling time to reach the school of your daughter choice

2ct:
If parents can sacrifice their beauty sleep for 6 years, they could consider sending the child to school. During the ride there, kid and parent could bond.If it takes 1 hr travelling time to reach the school of your daughter choice

If that's not possible and the child can read (without feeling nauseous)/rest on the train and doesn't need many hours of sleep, she could still choose the better school which is further away. -
Hi! would anyone know whether all the notifications from RGS are for successful applicants only? Are DSA notifications from RGS via emails only? I am still waiting for the result for my DD application into RGS. Does that mean rejected?
Thanks. -

rgs has already sent out rejection emails. Maybe you should call the school. They or you could've misspelled the email address. Good luck! -
Thanks Daisyt and Mathsparks for your views. Now I feel better at helping my girl make her choice. It is still a long way, at least now my idea is clearer. Will keep the option "open " till nearer to the date. Thanks.

turquoise:
Hi turquoise,
No idea because the girls only found out when they came home to check their emails. We might get a better picture tomorrow when they all get back to school.Dharma:
Thanks turquoise. You must be proud of her.
Any idea how many girls from RGPS(GEP) got accepted into RGS via DSA?
Do you know how many successful applicants there were under RGPS mainstream?
According to my girl, her classmates have not heard anything from RGS yet. RGS may have notified successful applicants from the GEP first. -

My girl's classmate (from the mainstream) has already received successful notification from RGS on Tuesday. -

Hi Dharma,Hi turquoise,

Thanks. I don't know how many from GEP got confirmed offers from RGS but I hear many who applied were accepted. -

The top girl from 6F and at least 2 others from 6E received offers from RGS. Seems like very few from RGPS mainstream get in to RGS via DSA. -

That's great that a few of them got in. Did they just find out? More will get in via their PSLE results I'm sure. -

My girl just found out yesterday. I guess so, if they do well enough.Hi Dharma,

Any stats on how many mainstream girls got in last year. There were 1 or 2 parents who were grilling the P during the parents briefing for the stats. Said that details would be put up in the website. Never saw it.
In 2007, 10 from my girl's class and maybe another 8 to 10 from 6F made it to RGS after PSLE. -

Did your P6 daughter get into RGS via DSA? Congrats!
No idea on stats. The P said at the briefing that she would put up the list of schools with and without GEP. She said she wouldn't put up actual numbers because she didn't want that info up in a public arena. -
turquoise:
You’ve congratulated the wrong person, lah. My 2nd girl was rejected after the GAT.[Hi Dharma,

Oops! Apologies. Misread your reply. Anyway, I'm sure she'll do well enough at PSLE to go to the school of her choice. Prelims are over! Phew! -

No pbm turquoise. Actually, we did not expect her to get thru. She is just above average but slowly improving. P5 was a difficult year for her as the success of my #1 in PSLE the year before left a negative impact on her. Friends and relatives made did not make things easier as comparisons are always being made. Even in school, she is known as the sister of #1 by some teachers. Being very sensitive, her confidence level was affected and started to drop. It showed clearly in the P5 SA1 and SA2 exams. It was sure a tough time for my wife and I as we tried to make her believe in herself and to stay focused. By god’s grace things started to get better this year and slowly we begin to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
I sure hope that she performs to the best of her ability. RGS is a far shot for her but looking at SCGS/ MGS, if she does well enough.
You’re right …what a relieve now, after the science paper this morning. But still not over yet,….Higher MT on Wed. -
Hi Dharma, I’m sure with your encouragement your daughter will do well. Sometimes it’s best that the two sisters not study in the same school so as to minimise comparisons. SCGS and MGS are both excellent schools, both with School Based Gifted Programmes.
