Tingkat Dinner
-
I don’t plan to use tingkat long…just try out for a month first since school just started…think it’s better NOT to have expectations bcos food can never match up to home-cooked ones.

Hi, Janet.
You managed to find good tingkat lobang?
My elder boy now in boarding, then going to hv 2 major tooth extraction to make way for braces. The younger one told me he felt nine shaky tooth.
I think after a prolong period of serving soft food to both of them, it would be PSLE soon.
Should I tingkat prior to PSLE days? to save my own sanity? -

Many moms think of ordering tingkat prior to PSLE to save time etc but this is actually very bad for your kid who is going through the exams. You should not subject your kid to such low quality food especially when he/she needs nutrition most.
This is the period that moms should serve double-boiled soups, and cook low grease low salt balanced meals to prevent the kids from falling sick during the important exams.
It is a bit too late for the mom to do much in terms of revision (outsource those instead) so the moms should come home earlier to cook healthier food instead.
Just my mom's 2 cents, but I feel it is very logical. -
Personally, I tried a few tingkat dinners when I was still working full time. Let me be frank, I threw most of the food away coz they were inedible - rice hard, soup oily and salty, some dishes plain weird. Just lost the appetite to eat the food. It became so bad that I would rather just eat plain rice with a fried egg.
So in the end, I invested in thermal cookers for soups and planned ahead my dinner menus so I can defrost and marinate the night before. This took some planning but we were so happy to eat simple home cooked meals.
And we would also buy a few dishes from the tze char or chicken/duck rice if I am running late. -

Totally agreed.Jennifer:

That's why I am hoping to find a gem in the tingkat dinner. -

I am a fussy eater...but to save my sanity cooking 2 meals, I use tingkat for dinner. For lunch, I make all-dump-in...so there is soup, meat and vege + rice or beehoon. The other way is to cook more for lunch and dinner...this way, you just have to steam up. -

Actually, I would prefer choosing to buy from the cai png stall after work than ting kat. It’s abit more effort but, you do get to choose what you can eat afterall.

Yes agree with you. I would also prefer buying from economical rice stall, fresher and you can choose. But they still put MSG lah... -

Economy rice/zi char stalls serve tastier food...that may mean more salt and MSG. Food also more 'wok hei' compared to tingkat which is bland...but we do not feel thirsty at all. I am very sensitive to MSG.coolermonster:

Same prawn paste chicken from tingkat and zi char...of course zi char is much nicer.
