My 6 year old DS3 is learning drums at Academy of Rock. They have a few branches around Singapore…Goldhill square, Siglap and Holland V. As long as the child is tall enough to reach the paddle of the base drum and is able to follow instruction, he/she can start learning.

My boy started started learning drum in a music school since Jan. As he is interested, I am keen to buy a set of acoustic drums for him to practice at home. I was told that the 'Pearl' brand is quite suitable and further more, nowadays they can 'mute' the sound volume since installed in a HDB flat. Wonder if anyone has any experience in learning and practising drum at home? thanks 😄

My son started at about 4 at a school in thomson road but I don’t think they have drum classes anymore. He followed the teacher to School of Music Clef at Suntec. For the first 2.5 years, I didn’t get him a drumset. He would practice on pillows and a practice pad. Only when I was sure he was serious about drums did we get him a set.

You might want to put your child in a concert band under percussion. Saw some impressive drummers there.

Which concert band takes in? I'm interested to put him there.

Does his primary school has a concert band? If so, that is a good place to start with as it will provide him with the percussion exposure.

Son (age 9) is learning drum at About Music http://www.aboutmusic.com.sg. He enjoys the lesson and can jam with others.

Remember to wear ear plugs and protect their ears…heard from friends how kids are getting hearing loss because they use earphones and exposed to loud music…
