Dear parents, my daughter is currently in MGS Sec 2 and applying for Yr3 IP selection . There will be a Selection Test (Written) in August, may I know anyone know what kind of test is it about?

your Sec 2 daughter, at aged 14,
is independent enough,
to source for info herself.
MGS (Secondary school premises) got any internal school library ?
1)
can ask the librarian there, whether library got access to any stored sample past year paper(s), for taking Sec 3 " IB " entrance tests ?
2)
Another way is,
your Sec 2 daughter attend a weekly Cca ?
can ask your daughter to find out herself,
does she happen to know of any Seniors, inside her Cca group :
whether any Senior (from Cca) have ever transfered track before,
from end-of-Sec2 "O-level" track into the new Sec3 "IB" track ?
If Yes,
your girl can approach this transfered-across-curriculum-track-Senior, for advice.
3)
During recess time break everyday, from Monday to Friday,
your daughter can ask her fellow classmates / school mates during recess time break at canteen,
if they know of any Senior (student) ever transfered curriculum track before, at the end of Sec 2.
If Yes,
can ask them for this pupil’s (Senior) name & contact number and get your girl to ask this Senior, for advice & ask all the "burning" questions, that your daughter have.

This is the easiest method.
Your daughter have any friends (school-mates) in school (MGS), currently from or studying inside the existing "IB" track ?
If Yes,
your daughter can approach them for a sample of their past year "IB" exam paper(s), to take a look.
Why ?
Because
the standard of this "entrance" qualifying test end-of-Sec2 curriculum transfered paper(s), from the O-level track switching over into the new Sec3-IB-track, set
standard wise :-
should be very similar,
to those current IB-exam papers set or encountered by their current existing (Year 2 to Year 4) IB students, who are taking their IB tests (exam) faithfully, from regular Term time
(Term 1 to Term 4). -

The test is a requirement to determine if your daughter a) meets the criteria to be considered top-10% (that's equivalent to the 'old' PSLE 250), and b) will make the cut for however many places they have left for the IP leading to ACS(I) IB. The test covers reasoning ability in several domains. phtthp is right to say that the school may have past years' or sample papers for examination, and there's no harm asking the school office for clarification. However, they may not release actual papers for you to look at.

Hi Ma Ma Mon,
If your Sec 2 daughter is really keen to cross over at end of Sec 2 into next year Sec 3 (IB) curriculum, get her to
1) let her VP (Academic) or current Sec 3 level year-head in MGS, know of this earlier,
2) ask the Teacher-in-charge roughly, for each year (batch), how many end-of-Sec2 students managed to transfer across, successfully ?
And
After transferred across into Sec 3 (IB) track, any initial struggle commonly encountered in Sec 3 and how to overcome (if any) ?
3) ask the Teacher in charge, any other "burning" questions that u or your daughter may have.
All these questions, must be initiated by your Sec 2 daughter at her own inititative, because she is 14 year old. In Secondary schools, teachers want students to approach them directly. Not parents approach teachers directly. -

Hi,
I am exploring MGS IP(IB) for my child who is doing PSLE this year. I will like to hear from parents their children experience in this school and this program. Is the program good and if child is enjoying it? I also know that MGS has a SBA program for O level track. If IP(IB) program is good, I might even consider applying for O level track. Thanks. -

The MGS IP was meant to parallel the ACS(I) IP, but it isn't the same. The preparation is somewhat equivalent.

MOE allowed all the IP schools to make their own choices of curriculum and partnerships. Initially, ACS(I) attempted to 'sell' the IBDP to SCGS and NYGHS as well as MGS, but there were no takers. It was only in 2011 that someone was officially asked to help design an IB-compatible IP for MGS. MGS doesn't offer the IB, only the S1-4 IP leading to IB.
