          Shoe:
For one-pot dishes, Thermos and Tiger both make stainless steel wide mouthed food jars. Cost quite a bit but they retain heat quite well and fairly easy to clean

do these twi brands come wf shallow n deep pots? sorry for asking too many Qs

I bought the La Gourmet big 7l pot with shallow pot inside fr Taka about >3 years back. No regrets so far. The soup is sufficient for a family of 4 for 2 days! So I only cook soup twice a week since we eat out on Fri - Sun.

I used to cook the rice in the shallow pot when I was working full time and the rice was quite soft, but that's good for the kids. So don't put in too much water when you cook the rice in the thermal pot for many hours.

Now, since I have time, I prefer to cook the rice in another pot.

My mother bought the Tiger brand which doesn't come with the shallow pot. It's more expensive and solid looking but we don't see any difference in the end result. She prefers things made in Japan :).

If you boil the rice for 20mins, it would already be cooked rice. And if you put this cooked rice into the thermal pot for another 6 hours, you will end up with mushy rice or thick porridge.

So far my best experiment was...
                1. Boil soup (almost 2/3 full)
                2. Boil rice with slightly lesser water than usual in the shallow pot over a small flame (to heat the shallow pot up)

Steps 3 and 4 to be done concurrently:
                3. When soup has boiled for >20 mins, put the soup pot in the thermal cooker.
                4. When rice in shallow pot has almost half cooked, put the shallow pot into the soup pot and cover quickly to prevent heat loss. Shut the thermal cooker.

Best not to cook for more than 6 hours if you want fluffy rice. But if you are FTWM, then cannot be too fussy...

If you place cold washed rice into the hot thermal pot, the rice will not be cooked through to the centre of the grain.

If you place the shallow pot of rice into the soup pot while boiling, it takes a longer time to heat up the rice pot.

So my best option is the above.

I make soup every alternate days,3 litre of soup can last for 2days.7L seems to be too much…the pot also very deep, right? My kitchen basin is quite small n swallow, might b difficult to wash 7L pot…

The reason i keen to buy thermal pot so i can go to wet or supermarket in the morning without nid waiting fr. soup or rice to ready.

Now,I’ve to make n wait for the soup to ready for at least 3hours b4 i could go to wet mkt.By the time i reach mkt oredi ard 10am,only left the leftover vege.I’ve to rush n be home latest by 11:30am coz i nid to prepare lunch b4 picking him fr. school.

I’ve both slow cooker n double boiler at hme,end up white elephant.Coz i find it troublesome to trf the leftover soup fr. slow cooker or double boiler to normal pot.

But is it possible to put 7L inner pot into the fridge?too big, right?

Thermal cooker cannot get too small…eg if you make lotus root soup or any soup, if stainless steel pot is too small, you can’t put ingredients in. If pot is bigger, no fear of boiling over too. I like to use bigger pot to make soup but measure so that it isn’t too much. But I understand how difficult it can be to wash bigger pot.
