with the boys in such a good sch, only 1.5 class takes triple science? is that based on the results n do they try to push more kids to do triple sciences? what is the qualifying criteria?
Can I assume your son is year 1, Because if he is in year 2 you would have attended the parent teacher meeting.
I can only help to answer the Secondary School part.Careermum:
Hi,
I like to find out more about the subject combination selection in year 2 & JC1, and the sports CCAs.
(1) In year 2 and JC1, are the students allowed to choose any subject combinations or there are pre-determined ones? What are the subject combinations for year 2 and JC1?
(2) In year 3, how many students can take triple Science (Pure Bio + Chem + Physics)?
(3) CHS offers only Pure Science?
(4) In JC1, triple science or double maths double maths is not offered?
(5) For sports CCA, can anyone join or only those in the school team can join?
Thank you!
That’s right. Choose subject combi at end of year 2. The combi is for year 3&4.
Cannot randomly form own combi.
There are 4 fixed subject combi.
No quota per combi ie as long as you qualify you can choose that combi. All depends on Year 2 results.
Eg my DS is doing Triple science & more than 40 students qualified for that, so DS’s class (whole class) & another half class are doing triple sciences.
The students moved around to go to their respective subjects throughout the day.
And can I assume he’s in IP since you ask about JC1?
The qualifying criteria is slightly different between ip & o level track, that’s why i asked, so that i can give you the correct info.
I’ll await your reply & post the correct qualifying criteria here later

That’s right.
Triple science option is no longer popular for many students. At A Level, you can only do 2 sciences due to the contrasting subject requirement. As such, very little practical point in pursuing triple sciences unless that's really your interest.deardear07:

Also cannot assume best students do triple sciences.
There r also many brilliant ones doing triple humanities due to passion & interest. -

Agree. Didn't expect such display of 'dislike' for CHS. Was really worried about placing it as 1st and 2nd choice.
Wow this level if dislike for the school is indeed disheartening anc dusturbing...i have nothing but gratefulness to Cath High for my DS time there... may you should look at alternative... the toxicity is not good for everyone...jollybea:

All the best :rahrah: -
Just curious… what r the expected scores of the boys there? Most of them do relatively well or some struggle?
Like at primary sch level, for them to get to 250 COP, all of them have to be assumed to be scoring 90s or maybe at the lowest, high 80s across all subjects right? This score will drop when they get to sec sch with the same subjects? -

With the affiliation cop at 240, the average scores entering sec 1 will be quite high. However sec school is different ballgame from pri school...8 new subjects, cca, teenager angst... everyone starts from the same starting line againJust curious.. what r the expected scores of the boys there? Yeah understand, but does that automatically mean that the boys will b able to cope since they r supposed to be smart with such COPs? I mean, getting high 80s n 90s at p6 across all subjects isn’t some easy feat too…
There’s still remedial available in sch? -
They all start from scratch. My boy did well for psle but did not do well in for Sec 1 n 2. Failing in one to two subjects does not surprise me. But there are students who did very well and score well too. It really depends on their own effort. And how they handle their new found freedom. Lol. Let them find their own path and grow up from there.
