PSLE 2009 RESULTS!!

Thank Goodness my son had affiliation, if not he will barely be able to enter Fairfield Secondary.

Looks like this thread has slowed down a lot after the deadline of 2nd Dec 09, 3pm !!

VitoRelax has a good point - why does MOE need 20 days to do posting? It should be done within couple of days. Hope someone from MOE is reading this...
VitoRelax:
All students are required to submit application by 2nd Dec.
Results of posting only out on 22 Dec.
Anyone knows why MOE needs 20 days ? Their software should be able to chune out the results based on the algorithm at the touch of a button !! -

I meant to raise this point in my previous post on this thread but somehow omitted it.All students are required to submit application by 2nd Dec.

Time is needed for human intervention in ties, review cases - a computer can't do that. Plausible? -
I heard that schools like raffles offer \"Donation Seats\" which is basically bribery......so unfair!!!!
Don't be surprised. You can get into Harvard if your parents donate US$5 million (in cash upfront) with promises of more to come. -

Me think the COA for affilated schools are not preset. Me think a certain percentage is reserved for affliated schools. The last person who gets admitted through affilation then determines the COA for that year for that school.DadOfGirl:
That's a big difference from non-affliated .. why is it so? . there is no such thing for JC i hope ( though therr are addtional points)
Because the 200 for affiliated is pre-set by the school & the balance places of non-affiliated students are based on merit. -

I can confirm it is preset. It is the same for MGS & SCGS for the past 2 years. If it is based on percentage, the COA cannot be same with a nice integer like 200 & 220 for every year !!
I have called up both SCGS & MGS and they both confirmed it is preset !!
This should clear your doubt !! -
Way2GO:
If the computer program needs human intervention to run, then it is a useless algorithm. Don't think MOE is so backward & the algorithm used in their software should not require any human intervention. Therefore, upon pressing the button, places for all 40 over thousand students should be allocated within minutes !!I meant to raise this point in my previous post on this thread but somehow omitted it.

I have called up MOE this afternoon, the officer attended to me was very knowledgable & confident in her answers.
The algorithm is as follows:
1) All students are ranked according to their aggregrate t-score which has many decimals places. Students will only have same aggregrate score if all their marks in all the 4 subjects are identical. This scenario is quite remote, though not impossible.
2) In the unlikely event that the 2 students (or more) with identical score choose the same school with only 1 place left (Or vacancy fewer than identical students), the place at the school goto the student opting a higher choice (ie the student that put 2nd choice will get priority over one that put 3rd choice). Officer told me this scenario has never happened before in their history.
3) In the even more unlikely event where 2 students (or more) with identical scores all put the school at the same choice & the vancacies left are fewer than the number of students with identical score, then the computer will do a \"random pick\" to select the lucky student(s). So, this is like tossing a coin !!
So you see, the algorithm needs no human intervention & all places should be already allocated by the time you read this !!
So, anyone knows why does MOE needs 20 days to inform us of the postings ?
Thanks -
They need time to do the paperwork and sent it to the school etc. :?

20 days to do paperwork in this modern, fast-paced & advanced technology age ?
Shouldn't one week, at most, be enough ?
