Hi,

I would like to ask the experts here on the following matter:

I overheard a child with T-score of 247 trying to decide which school she could go last year.

She's from nyps, and the COP for nygh was 250 for her due to affiliation. However, her mother discouraged her from putting nygh as the first choice. She asked her to put Crescent Girls as first choice instead as according to her, the COP was 24-something and if the child put Crescent Girls as first choice, she would definitely get a place there. But if she put nygh as first choice and Crescent Girls as 2nd choice, she would be at risk of not getting Crescent Girls if she's rejected by nygh.

      How true is that?

It is indeed true that there is a possibility that she would not get in2 Crescent Girls if she gets rejected by nygh... as there would b little vacancies after those who put CG as their first choice gets in... If her score is a lot higher than the cut-off point then she should hav a higher possibility of getting in..

I don't think what you say is very accurate. As long as her score is higher than another kid regardless of whether that kid put CG as first choice, she will take up the spot in CG first. I don't think the COP is pre-defined.

      From MOE:
All pupils will be ranked by merit according to their PSLE results. In general, a pupil would be considered for admission to his choice of schools before another pupil who has not performed as well in the PSLE, subject to the availability of vacancies in the school.
But the child will be competing with other 247s and won't priority be given to those 247s who place CG as 1st or earlier choice?

        Hi,

My son got 256 with Merit for Tamil HMT. We were hoping for an IP / IB route so that he does not have to got thro' the O levels. Based on past experiences, is there any chance of getting into ACS(I) IB with 256?

Any other schools to recommend, most other IP schools are SAP schools with no Tamil. Please help :?: ...

          Have you considered SJI?
Although at present it does not have a 6 year program but it is seeking approval for it.

if Tscore has 6 decimals , then this question doesnot hold .... but no one seems to know whether it is true that there are decimals behind t score

Based on what I know, it happens something like this:

              1. Students are ranked according to their positions based on their scores. Based on what I know, there is decimal points in MOE’s system, but I’m not too sure how many.

              2. From the top of the list, the students will be allocated their FIRST CHOICE schools. Those who do well will naturally get their preferred schools.
Students from primary schools with affiliation to the secondary schools will also get priority if their 1st choice is the respective affiliated secondary schools. [This is why some schools like PLMGS does not have non-affiliated students posted to them as vacancies were filled up by PL Pri girls. The non-affiliated students get in via DSA or appeal.]

              3. As they go down the list, vacancies in various schools will be filled up.

              4. If the 1st choice school is filled up, the child will be given 2nd choice school. If 2nd choice school is filled up, the child will be given 3rd choice and so on. If all 6 choices are full, then they’ll be allocated the nearest school that still has vacancies with appropriate COP. This is why the COP varies from year to year.

              5. If there is extremely high demand, MOE can post more students to the school & the school will need to open more classes if resources permit (means they have enough classrooms and facilities).

NOTE: This is based on my knowledge after speaking to friends who work at HQ. It is not a representation of MOE’s policy or processes.

Well, I'm just a kid, as my name says. (12 this year, choosing school too)

According to my choosing your secondary schools book, every student is ranked by merit. Here's a scan. Read it for yourself. I DO NOT OWN THE PICTURE BELOW.

                  Hi parents,

I am in complete dilemma. Kid is eligible to apply the following schools but we are not to sure which choice should we point as first choice and am seeking some advice:

                  1. St Patrick - affliated. Bus journey about 35-40mins.
                  2. Bendemeer Sec - 5-10mins walk.
                  3. Bartley Sec - not too far, bus journey about 25mins.

Anyone has comments on the 3 schools?

                    Thanks Carebear,

Thats my second choice. Had called up the school, they cannot disclose if the IP pgm will come through. ACS(I) is much closer too, but IB looks elusive 😢 . Feel sorry he will miss by just 1-2 points, sooo sad.

BTW carebear would u consider appealing to SST too??

                      Yes, i will appeal.
But it can be disruptive if he has to change school in Jan if he is accepted.
