Hi all,

Frankly speaking I am glad that firefly can feel my batok was on fire hahaaaaaaaaaa... ๐Ÿ˜‰ ..so please don't blame her either .. ๐Ÿ˜„..and I do feel 'no good' with reply like 'no big deal'...

Nevertherless, we are all parents coming here to share and learn from one another and at time joke joke and poke poke(for fun)... else KSP will not be a warm and nice forum to visit anymore.. Sometime out of excitment or curiosity, we might express something tt might hurt others unintentionally. So hope I did not do tt to anyone out there else it would be my apologise..
We are all busy mummies and daddies, no time for serious argument here...so my stand to share and learn at KSP remains..

MandyMummy:
there is no more official classification between geppers and non-gep after sec two

my understanding could be wrong

Yup, no more GEPpers vs Non-GEPpers after Yr 2. Replaced by RA vs non-RA?? :scratchhead:

My ignorant question - then what is this \"maintain your GEP status\" thing?? I got to learn about this when i attended this P6 talk for GEP parents organise by the school. The speaker is someone from MOE GEP dept. This was the first time i heard of \"GEP status\". Basically this lady said, \"the child can maintain his/her GEP status only if he fulfill the criteria\". One of the criteria is passing the SS.

So my question is if there's no difference btn GEP or no GEP after P6 or Sec 2, then what is this \"GEP status\". Does anyone know?
I think it could be for the EESIS

Edusave Entrance Scholarships for Independent Schools (EESIS)
Eligibility
The EESIS are awarded up to the top one-third of the total number of Secondary One pupils admitted to all Independent Schools (IS), based on their PSLE results.

The EESIS is also awarded to P6 GEP pupils who are Singapore Citizens and who

meet the P6 GEP promotion criteria, and
are enrolled in the IP in an Independent School at S1.

wormy:
the actual % who will get to do will depend on the selection tests results and interview and also EOY results. I am also not too convinced about the benefits of doing RA. Sure got trade-off. There's only 24 hours per day.

There are definitely pros and cons of doing RA.
I understand that RA requires alot of reading up and one has to passionate about the subject besides being competent in it. That's why there is a selection test and interview on top of the minimum GPA (overall and subject). To some students who wants to pursue other interests, be it art, music, sports or CCA leadership opportunities, RA takes up too much time.
So it doesn't mean that students who do not take up RA are less competent than one who does.
But for those who are passionate about the RA subject and wants to explore more, RA does provide good opportunities to accelerate in the subject.

in this particular case, vlim was not complaining about our government giving scholarships to FTs' kids instead of sporeans' kids, she was merely putting herself in the shoes of other parents, whose kids have not gotten a CO, and empathised with them. even if vlim was complaining about the matter (but i know she was not), i do not see anything wrong with that. you mean we cannot express our displeasure about something, just becoz our kids already have COs from 'premier' schools? :?

Actually, when I read the comment made by vlim about \"putting herself in the shoes of other parents, whose kids have not gotten a CO...\" I was quite put off. I mean, what is so wrong to be without a CO? They need empathy? If I may add, I empathise with those kids who have to attend numerous tuitions/enrichment (some since a young age), do countless and countless of past year papers, or groomings/coachings by parents etc to maintain their top positions or competitive edge over others.

JMHO.

I am glad tt my ds got to his dream school ... But I worry for my p3 dd mah ๐Ÿ˜‰ ..... Just joking ..

I am just putting myself in other pple shoes ....

No big deal. Majority of us have kids NOT in premier schools, unlike the majority in this thread of discussion. What to do?

Hi ying,
I did not say tt I put myself in other pple shoes whose kids didn't get any CO which sorry to know that it put u off... What I mean is by taking in FTs, it take up the chances/places of some of the local students enrolling to the school, be it through dsa or S1 postings and thats it. And of course, this not only happen in NJC but in some other schools as well....

Nothing wrong with no CO of course. Most of our kids esp mainstreamers have no CO. :frustrated: In fact majority of Singapore p6 kids have no CO  ...And vlim didn't mean it in the negative sense. She's one of the sweetest KSP regular contributors around  I understand how we mainstream parents feel frustrated when our above average kids gets no CO in this DSA game esp when our kids put in a lot of efforts all these years. To us mainstreamer parents, a CO is so hard to come by. But so far majority of the GEP parents here are a nice lot. Let's jiayou together. :hugs:

Wow! First, some members write in to "support" Phankao. Now, some members write in to "support" vlim. Ok, ok, I did not mean to say that vlim is not a nice person, just that my very first reaction when reading her that particular post "puts me off". Thatโ€™s all. Maybe I misinterpreted it. As I mentioned in another thread (RI vs HCI), the readings in this thread are "happier" as parents share tips, info and advice with one another.
