Cca is not compulsory in lower primary. For band, we realized that the later you join, there are stronger barriers. Eg must go through auditions to be selected while if you join at p1, no auditions required. So it doesn’t matter even if you are not music train.

I kaypoh and looked at some of the sec schools dsa requirements. Orchestral appears to be in demand as well. So we have yet to decide…

Sports is another area but one must have talent. my impression is that you must be really good. So aethestics seem more achievable. Participation in syf is a criteria.

My kids told me that in band, they are split into 2 groups. 1 can go for syf while the other can’t. So they were working hard to get into the syf team.

Their school also have wushu. Heard from another parent that quite a no. Made it to a certain sec school with wushu DSA. However as they are weaker academically, they are struggling in sec school now. So I think this teaches us not to chase it blindly.

I agree some schools have limited cca to choose from as well.

Frankly we have not gone through the DSA process yet and don’t know the challenges. If parents who sent kids via this route can share. That would be great. The 2011 DSA thread is too much to handle and seems to cater more for gep students.

Yes, agree. 2011 DSA thread concentrate too much on GEP.

would be nice if can create another new 2012 thread - just focusing on DSA via CCA more. At least separate out the CCA part from that GEP portion.

i really love to hear the beautiful Chinese music coming out from pipa, yang qin, guzhen, xiao (chinese flute). It’s so lovely …

        may i check -
if a child doesn’t know how to play guzhen from P3, will the school teach you from scratch, or they assume you must at least have some backgrd knowledge, before allow child join this CCA ?

Or further breakdown DSA via sports or aesthetics.

between yang qin and guzhen - i heard guzhen easier to play while yang qin more difficult to manage bec too many strings to handle, is it true ?

Why don't you start a thread for DSA via Sports and Aesthetics? I'm sure there'll be interest there.

HAST results could be used to select the 200+ for second round activity and interview.

Maybe in previous years the NJC gave out COs to GEPpers and many turned them down in favour of RI/HCI etc. That's why this year they decided not to give COS to them.

:goodpost: I agree. They do not want to waste their limited COs. They have ard 2-3 years DSA experience and it must have been an obvious trend. The probability of a mainstreamer exercising the CO is much higher.

I'm sure your DS will get into RI, and it is the top school. Looks like Hast Test result was not what NJC was looking for.
:thankyou: All the best to your DS in the PSLE results too.

is there a restriction to withdrawing from cca if the kid join band at P1 (since schools need to invest time to coach these students from scratch).
