True but no body use interviewers that were so varied in style/standard till some rooms took 10 min per candidate while some took up to 45 minutes.
Is it better to be in the 45min grp or 10min grp? is it really the interviewers or also the kids, some have more to talk abt then others perhaps?
Oh! Did other schools use only one set of interviewers? I thot HCI had several and finished at one go for GEPpers too. I know they had a separate session for Main stream. They need to split cos they had much more applicants I think.Dnls_mum:
About the NJC interview, there were so many rooms with so many different panels as it was all done in one afternoon.
Some panels finish very fast, some took a long time with the kids waiting up to few hours for their turn.
Not a very fair process to start with. -

You mean the CCA itself? Better not dream that way. haha.Thank you so much, phankao.
it is very, very useful.

din know got so many different type of CCAs before.
now can tell which school strong in which CCA.
good to expose child to music CCA, then next time can pursue music elective in Secondary school.
btw, which CCA involve much more time to practise - guzheng or violin ?
each week, spend 2 hours enough or much more time ?
In my boys' primary school, it makes not much difference. CCA practice would be about 2x per week, 3hrs each time. There are sectionals & group practice. I think it's about the same for both chinese orchestra or string ensemble. For SYF years, there are morning practices 5x/week for 1hr, including afternoon practices. -

Should be the interviewers.

Some rooms that day were like 2-3 hours behind time.
I'm curious to find out too on the outcome of short and long interviews that day. -
Dnls_mum:
Actually even in one of the top schools, despite what they wrote on the letter sent that each child would have 15mins only, by the time my son went in, it was 2hours over the time-schedule. I suppose for the 1st few who went in, they would be very happy and said that everything went quite smoothly, but for those who waited, they would be unhappy and have had a truly bad impression.

The rooms at and around the office didn't take long.
Heard it's the rooms far away that took a long time. -

Heard it's the rooms far away that took a long time.
I think it all depends on the interviewers. Some interviewers will make sure that the interview finishes within the time frame given and set the time limit for each student to talk. All interviewers should follow the time frame strictly. Teachers should not allow the interviews to drag on and on, resulting in the long waiting time for other students. -

It is like going to a specialist doctor at SGH. You have an appt time, but more often then not, you need to wait way pass your appt time. They estimate the time required for each appt and space the appts accordingly. However, human are unpredictable and some cases take longer then expected. The doctor unfortunately cannot evict a patient just because allocated time is up. He needs to finish with the consultation.

In the case of job interviews, length of interview time does not determine if you will get the job. I have held short interviews because I have decided very quickly in the interview that this is the right person and I am going to offer him/her the job. Conversely, I have also cut short interviews because I have sized up the person is not suitable. It all depends on the situation.
PiggyLalala,
Did your kid have a long or short interview? Was he successful?ngbrdad:

dS2 said he was scheduled to finish around 1.30pm. He finished around 1.45pm. His interview took 30 mins. They did try some time control. DS2 went on and on about his fav topic and he said he thot he put one interviewer to sleep. They quickly changed topic when he paused! I don't blame his interviewers. When he repeated what he spoke about to me, I almost fell asleep too! :rotflmao: -
wah! 5x per week is a lot!
CCA time consuming. :yikes:
is there any light CCA, like once a week type ? -

It's quite ok. Afterall they need to go to school in the morning! They just use the 1st period for practice and they don't need to go for assembly.wah! 5x per week is a lot!

*hehe* You think you can get good reward with light practice? ;D
