Burmese maid with us for 4 months. Cleaning - good, English - average. Basically everything is acceptable except she loves to show angry face. With Hp, spent about 28-56 per month topping up. She said called back Myanmar v expensive.

Today, told me she wants to Go city hall meet her Aunty. Said Aunty going back to Myanmar. In my heart, I am so reluctant to say yes but hubby said ok. He suggests to send her to cityhall and we go shopping, meet her hours later to send her back. I don’t know if this is appropriate. I know she is also human, naturally will want to see her friends but to me, Hp is the last thing I can tolerate. See, I didn’t even bother who she calls as long as works done at home.

I am also worry this req may be ask again in near future. I also know if I say no, she will be very unhappy.

          How?

Is your maid fresh or experienced? Fresh maids normally work without day off and so should not have handphone?

If she needs to meet her Aunty, is it possible for you to bring her there and sit with her during the meeting? I will not be "paiseh" with my maid so they normally do not ask funny things from me.

Hey, I like that. If she claimed to be meeting aunty, maybe you ask them to join you for coffee. This way, maid does not dare to try funny stunts in future.

Seem like no one has good experience with Myanmarese maid. I must be the luckiest person; my current Myanmarese maid has been with me for 2+ yr. I could trust her with my 9 mths old baby without supervision in the day. She is hardworking and very teachable.

She was slow and can’t ready speak English when first came, but she is a fast learner. Now she could speak good English and conversation over phone got no problem. Remember I used to get so frustrated giving instruction over the phone.

We had an agreement that she will go back to continue with her Uni study after 2 years when she just came. We requested her to stay on for half year to take care of the new born baby, we can’t ask for longer period as it will affect her study. And we went on to look for replacement but could not find any suitable candidate.

Just 2 weeks off her departure, she decided to stay on with my family for another 2 and half years. We were so delighted even I had wasted money for the air ticket.

I have to prepare for her passport renewal soon, checked out some maid agencies but they don’t handle Myanmar’s passport renewal. Does anyone have experience on passport renewal for Myanmarese maid? What are the process and prep work to be done?

Once I too had a maid who claimed to be meeting a relative who is also working in Singapore. When I volunteered to drive her there and drop her off, she had a change of mind. Couldn't even come up with an address!

Not fresh maid exactly. Transfer maid due to some law case for prev emp(work in shop).

SHe came with a phone, claimed that it was from her prev emp. They treated her nicely, gave her coke and clothes.

I asked agent about her request and agent said if wanna meet, meet at our place. I told her, she started tearing like as if I locked her up. Today asked her if she knows she doesn’t have day off, said yes. Asked if she was forced to no day off, she said no, she doesn’t want day off. Really can die. Then tell me her cousin (it is not her aunty now) knew our decision of not letting her go out and she is not coming to meet her at our place also.

This morning black face till 1pm, I cannot tahan then asked her if she has anything to tell me. She said nothing and said don’t know how to express. Later on, pretend like nothing happened. I am very sore over this as my hub was not understanding my concern and said something like I should give her freedom.

I wanna knock my head on the wall. Because of this request, now I fall out with my hub!

My friend’s maid, 8 years here in SG, rarely has a day off. Instead, her friends come to her employer’s house on their off days.

My ex-maid 4 years with me, 2 years with my extended family - no off days. Only asked once if her sister can come and visit her. Sister came and borrowed money from her, thereafter she did not want meet her sister anymore.

None of my subsequent maids wanted to go out either. They did not want to call home too. When they left with their SGD 5-figure savings equivalent, they thanked us profusely for not allowing them to go out.

Those whose objective here is to better their life are happy not to go out. Know some maids who had no land, house or business even though they had been here for many years.
