I would suggest taking Literature as one of the Humanities subjects.
Can anyone give some advice on humanities subjects? which ones are more manageable? which ones are easier to score more marks?
Literature teaches universal values. It enhances the ability to empathize with others, considers situations from the perspective of others and gains an understanding of the human condition.
This will increase their appreciation of the English language. Literature is useful for preparing the General Paper and Economics topic for JC.
Double pure Science and Double humanities offers more choices as compared to Triple pure Science and single humanities. Based on merits, students with higher percentage chose Double pure science and double humanities and triple pure science with single humanities subject is not so favoured nowadays. You only need to do double Science and a contrasting subjects in JC. Taking triple pure science with one humanities is like a gamble. Pray hard you study hard and score well for that single humanities. With double Science subjects, you have a choice to use one of the better Humanities subjects to gain entry to JC. -

Ultimately, it’s really a question that no one can answer. Students may be getting smarter (and better at dealing with exams), the subject requirements and “fit” haven’t really changed.
Wow. Anyway i was just hoping to hear some experiences from some of the gurus here...... cos i also don't know what's the interests...... haha times have changed 1080 deg from the time i took my o levels.... sounds like i damn old..... haha
Broadly speaking, if the ward’s EL is good, literature would be a good choice. If his maturity is high and understands that white is sometimes black or grey, this could be a good subject to choose.
Geography are pretty ‘factual’ and good for those who don’t mind memorizing and regurgitating them. It’s fairly dry for some people though
History for those who like to psychoanalyze. Would probably be good for those who likes to keep asking why or conspiracy theorist  -

Btw, why is it that the kids (and their parents) do not know how to select their subject combi? Are the secondary schools not advising them based on their strengths, and also based on the future opportunities??
During my time, I don't remember the school teachers providing any guidance on how to choose. Is this STILL lacking in schools? Surely someone would have spotted this gap by now?? -
Another burning question that I have: why does subject combi matter for IP students?? Don’t they skip O levels anyway??

I think some subjects at JC level comes with prerequisite. Hence, subject combi still somehow matters.

The schools do have sessions talking about subject combinations, future opportunities, etc. And they are organised during school hours, for the students.

The ones asking here, are the parents. Parents are not invited to subject combination talks, I guess? And parents nowadays want to be involved in the decision making, so they ask here. -

They skip the o levels but they also have promotion criteria to clear, and some schools take the average of all subjects, some schools take the average of something like L1R5, some schools take the average of L2R5....so for those with the R5, they need one maths, one science, one humanities subject....and therefore, subject combi will matter if you are not scoring 100% for everything. If you are good in everything, it doesnt matter what you choose.

That as well, but most of the time, you will find the questions are always around the humanities subject, and as humanities subjects at the A levels have no prerequisite, the reason why they are asking, is usually more for the calculation of their final grades, than for the A levels prerequisite, cos if you notice, they are normally about “ease of scoring”, “minimal effort”, “max marks”....

And some IP schools have a compulsory humanities subject, that if they want to take another regular one (L G H), they will have to take 9 or drop one Sc, hence, some people get headaches over this. And the parents ask here because they cant figure it out, but if you ask the students, they are actually quite clear which are the available subject combinations if they want to take this or dont take that. It is the parents who are not clear.
Or some parents ask in advance, their kid not worried but they are worried. So they ask here and it then appears like schools are not providing enough info.
