For students taking HCL, triple science and double Math, are they considered as 9 or 10 subjects?

some Secondary schools imposed \"minimum and maximum\" subject combination

      minimum, 6 O-level subjects
      maximum, 9 O-level subjects

and the school does NOT allow students to take #10th subject

      example

      refer slide #26

      https://www.chijsec.edu.sg/qql/slot/u521/Parents/2018/Streaming%20Slides_2018%20%28PTM%20Talk%29.pdf

Thanks! I think in most schools, triple science is only offered to students who managed to get above 75% overall, A1 student.

          Yes, if student want

          - Triple Pure Sciences

usually, schools require at least A1 (75 & above) , in both Sec 2 end-of-year-Assessment streaming (Maths & Science subjects).

          over & above this requirement,
schools also expect minimum 70%, in overall Total, if student want to take on #9 subject

          - (Double Sciences, Double Humanities)

require at least 60 marks each, in (Maths & Science)

          Example

          can refer slide #54,
inside school slides \"Promotion to Sec 3\", Crescent Girls Secondary school, whose 2019 PSLE Cut-off-point was 243, high !

What if, students are keen to transfer, from O-level into IP, at the end of Sec 2 ?

Sec 2 students who want to know what are the criteria, for Sec 3 subject combination in Victoria Secondary school, can assess below

            Example

at end of Sec 2 (O-level),

            - internal O-level track students within Victoria Secondary school itself, as well as

            - outside, external students from other Secondary schools, who wish to seek transfer into Victoria Secondary, if got vacancies exist for IP, to join Sec 3 Victoria (IP) program,

            1) your Maths and Science, must be at least >= 70 marks, and

            2) your overall Total, including your best Sec 2 humanties subject (from English Literature / History / Geography),
            must >= 70%

            info

Hi parents! Just curious, how common is it for pupils to take triple humanities in the ‘top schools’?

Triple Humanities, are offered in designated IP schools, that offer the Humanities scholarship

                Humanities scholarship, are offered in

                - Anglo-Chinese Junior College
                - Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

                - Eunoia Junior College (IP students from SCGS / St Nick / Catholic High)

                - Hwa Chong Institution (IP students from Nanyang Girls High / Hwa Chong)

                - National Junior College

                - Raffles Institution (IP students from RGS / RI)

                - Temasek Junior College

                - Victoria Junior College (IP students from Cedar Girls Sec / Victoria Secondary)

                info
                https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/scholarships/moe-preu/humanities

students who are offered MOE Humanities scholarship, after a successful interview by IP school / MOE staff, will be able to take Upper Sec 3 IP (Triple humanities)

                example

there are IP SCGS Sec 3 students, taking Triple humanities (AEP Art Elective, English Literature, Geography). Usually, is more the girls taking Triple humanities. Boys normally tend to stick to \"Maths / Science\" traditional path

I'm not sure if you are referring to upper sec or JC? Without having any figures to cite, my sense is that not many do. The majority of strong students still prefer to take at least some maths/science.

In upper sec, most students have to take at least 1-2 maths and 1 science, which doesn't leave much room for 3 humanities, I think. And few would choose to narrow their options so much at that stage.

At JC, students may have already decided that they definitely want to head towards humanities and will only take the compulsory maths/science contrasting subject. So there will be some, including Humanities Programme students, who choose to take 3 humanities. But I think hybrid combinations with 2 maths/science and 2 humanities are still more common than 3 humanities.

I suppose maybe it makes sense to define what is triple humanities.

I also do not have numbers to prove, but from what I can see...

If it is Combined Humanities, and History/Geo/Lit, and History/Geo/Lit, then I dont think this is common.
The 3rd humanities is prob Higher Music/Higher Art.
I dont think there are many, if any, schools that have this combination of History and Geo and Lit (one of them elective).

Same for schools that dont do Social Studies — H/G/L + H/G/L + Higher Music/Higher Art is possible, but H+G+L as the 3 humanities, is uncommon if it even exists.

If you look at the schools that say they allow 3 humanities, I think the 3 is not a combi of History and Geo and Lit.

Also some schools have their own subject which they classify as humanities, and they make this compulsory.

                        Hu = Geo, Hist, Lit
