If you find your DS or DD have aptitudes towards engineering, F math would significantly helped them in Univ. I have friends still boasting their solid JC math foundation when they were doing their postgraduate studies overseas, where they trumped many other students in various subjects. Incidentally, both of them were studying economics (considered an art subject), which is a subject using words and words to describe simple graphs of calculus, in particular, differentiation. My friends were always able to derive the equations from the first principles, which means they can solve problems without referring to econ textbooks, and elegantly! They both accredit this to their solid math foundation in JC.

Glad to know F Maths will b offered again.
For students who like maths, it is really buy 1 get 1 free.
F maths covers Mechanics topic which is also covered in Physics.
It also covers statistics. My uni first year statistics was easier than it. Think i skipped almost all statistics lectures. -

Yes yes, F Maths! My ds is already planning to take double Maths for A level though he is only going sec 3 next year

Hi Augmum / Song22
Any idea if F Maths is content heavy? DS is thinking of taking double maths in JC next yr.
Need some advise. Thx

Like many others had said, those who are good and enjoy maths will be able to score. When I was doing business course at NTU, those who took double maths found finance, statistics and econs easier. Most of my friends who went on specialsing in finance were mostly \"science\" students. My ds will definitely take double maths. for my dd, she is only in sec 1 and also seems to have a stronger preference for maths but we will still need to observe. maybe you have to observe first whether he enjoys maths and could do maths breezily without tuition or \"pulling his hair\" -

If yr DS wanna to opt for F maths in A level...First n foremost, he must hv the aptitude for Maths besides passion...
He can access himself how was his performance for A Maths thus far....
Generally, it is recommended for pupils who can consistently score 85% n above in their A maths if they wanna to do F Math at A level...
Pls also check with the individual JCs, their criteria of choosing F Maths...
As my gal is eligible to do H3 Maths, so i reckon she would gladly choose F Maths if it was available then...
More enjoyable for her, rather than trying to cramp those mountains of Bio notes ....
( though Yes, she agrees that Bio topics are indeed interesting)

Wonder will this re- introduction of F Maths having the same syllabus as during our era ??
Juz like H2 Maths is not exactly the same as our olden days Maths as H2 Maths incorporated a portion of F Maths ... -

[quote=\"zbear\"]Apart from what has been shared by starlight n sieg, for those who don't like memorising, kindly don't go for Bio especially at JC level.
It's NOT only the memorising part of Bio...
Many pple perceive that so long u memorise the mountains of notes, u'll score...
But No...the Bio Essay questions which are very stringent in marking, many students simply lose marks on these...
In short, the amt of hardwork pile into this subj... may not translate to good grades...

Even before FMaths was scrapped, the difficulty had apparently reduced. My husband took it in the early 80s, and he had contact with some top students in the 90s, and they reported that the papers of the early 80s were more difficult.Wonder will this re- introduction of F Maths having the same syllabus as during our era ??
