      Hi,

Need help with the following Math problems. Many thanks in advance.

      1. Alvin’s monthy income is $250 more than Clare but their monthly expenditures are the same. Over a certain period of time, Alvin has saved $1350 and Clare has only $600. Given that each of them spent $500 a month,
(a)How long did Clare take to save $600?
      (b)What is Alvin’s monthly income?

      2. Mary and Jason each have some money. If Mary spent $80 per day and Jason spent $40 per day, Mary will have $400 left when Jason has pent all his money. If Mary spent $40 per day and Jason spent $80 per day, Mary will have $1000 left when Jason jas spent all his money. What is the amount of money Jason has?

        1. Alvin's monthy income is $250 more than Clare but their monthly expenditures are the same. Over a certain period of time, Alvin has saved $1350 and Clare has only $600. Given that each of them spent $500 a month,
(a)How long did Clare take to save $600?
        (b)What is Alvin's monthly income?
        A [ ][500][250]

        C [ ][500]

        [ ] denotes savings

        [ ] denotes expenditures

Alvin saves $250 more than Clare per month

The amount of money that Alvin saved more than Clare = 1350 - 600 =750

        a) Number of months that Clare took to save $600 = 750 / 250 = 3 months (Ans)

        b) The amount of money that Clare saved per month = 600 / 3 = 200

        Alvin's monthly income = 200 + 500 + 250 = $950 (Ans)

          Model 1

          M [ ] + 1000

          J [ ][ ]

          Model 2

          M [ ][ ][ ][ ] + 400

          J [ ][ ]

Compare models 1 and 2 of Mary ,
          [ ][ ][ ]-----> 600
          [ ]--------------> 200

          The amount of money that Jason has = 2 * 200 = $400 (Ans)

Can anyone help to solve this question?

I am a 3-digit even number. My last digit is 1/3 of my second digit which is twice my first digit. I am a multiple of 3. What is the smallest even number I can be?

              Please help. Thanks.

Henry and Jill have some money. If Henry gives Jill $5, they will have the same amount of money. If Jill gives Henry $5, Henry will have twice as much money as Jill. How much does each child have?

                  J [----]

                  [----] = [5][5][5][5] = 20

                  Henry had [----][5][5][5] = 20 + 15 = $35 (Ans)

                  Jill had [----][5] = 20 + 5 = $25 (Ans)

                    [1st] [2nd] [3rd]

                    [3rd] is either 2 , 4 , 6 or 8 as it is an even number

                    [2nd] is either 6 , 12 , 18 or 24 if it is 3 times of 3rd digit

Based on the given information ,

                    [2nd] is 6

                    [3rd] is 2

[1st] is 1 as it is half of the 3rd digit

The smallest even number I can be is = 162 (Ans)

                      Hi jieheng,

Thanks for the solution. Can you explain the following workings

The amount of money that Alvin saved more than Clare = 1350 - 600 =750

                      a) Number of months that Clare took to save $600 = 750 / 250 = 3 months (Ans)

                      Why 750/250?

Alvin saved $250 more than Clare per month .

Over a certain period of time , Alvin saved $750 more than Clare .

To find out how long did Clare take to save $600 is to find out how many months that Alvin saved $750 more than Clare by using (750 / 250)

                        Regards,
