Dear Parents,

Hope you would all share your feedback for the Prelims.
      TQ in advance!

My son told me that many P6 pupils were seen crying yesterday. I asked him why, and he said that they had failed some of their subjects (he doesn't know which subject, but he said most likely maths or english). To make things worse, these kids are from the top band classes. Poor kids. It's only the prelims and they are already so devastated. I hope they are not demoralised by this, since psle is just 1.5 mths away.

but which school is this ?

and why should prelim standard be tougher than the normal tests and SA ? unless they (both teachers and students) have not been doing their work .....
The paper isteslf should not be too different, its the marking that is very very stringent.
Perhaps to keep the kids on their toes.

Perhaps to keep the kids on their toes.
there should not be any concern if the marking standard has been consistent throughout.....unless the teachers are sure of what is required at PSLE ...

I think it does not matter whether a school has 1 Prelim or 2 Prelims. What matters is - 'how closely the Prelims resemble the real PSLE exam standards?'

If Prelims are too tough, it may break the confidence level of students.

If they are too easy, the students will become 'too slack'.

The trick is to achieve the 'perfect resemblence to PSLE'. I wonder how many schools achieve that. Can anyone throw more light on this?
Whatever... my DS having Prem1 this week and already before that we have rec'd Prem 2 dates ... go go go on going stress till PSLE lo 😢

My nephew teacher advise them to avoid the 命题作文 and is better to choose for 看图作文.

                  This should be the way.

                  Picture, story cannot go wrong.

Title, sometime story go wrong, that’s it.

For HMT, there is no picture. Only topic and continuous. So just choose the question that you are most confident. Normally for MT, the teacher will advise to do picture.

For picture, maybe it's hard to score on contents, most people will be writing the same thing. To score, may need to depend on your language. However, it's a safe bet, compared to writing out of point. Out of point, max you can get is 8/40 only. If you write beautifully, maybe 10/40.

I do hear about these 8 marks too. However, according to the CL teacher, the expectation of HCL is 2.5 pages and CL is 2 pages. Of course must not write too many 啰嗦 words.

With PSLE approaching soon, parents should be focusing more on exam techniques rather than cramming the kids with info.

That's what I'm doing with my students now. We've completed content and process application skills. Now is the time to focus on exam techniques and strategies this September holidays.

Especially for English - Now it's too late to restart grammar, it's also too late to start learning vocabulary. The techniques I teach are to increase the chances of getting a right answer even if they really do not know the answers.
