      Hard Truth:
A friend of mine is contemplating the above top load model. Any users here who are willing to vouch for it or not to touch it with a 100m pole?

The sales people have been saying that the Jap brands (Sharp, Hitachi, Panasonic) are less problematic vs the Koreans (LG, Samsung). Any truth from your experience?

Our Toshiba top load wm konked out at its 3rd year just as we returned from a long holiday with a big load of laundry to wash! We even replaced the circuit board during the 2nd year of use when a couple of the buttons spoiled in the hope that we can use it for a few more years. Money wasted...

        Hi all

I used an Ariston front loader for 7 years, it served me well until it finally died last year. I only use Persil low suds, clothes were well maintained and washed very clean compared to the Japanese Top loaders we’ve been using previously.

After the Ariston died, I bought a LG front loader. I can’t seem to get the detergent amount right, I’m now down to 1 table spoon of Persil washing my home clothes. They feel very rough, pilling and worned out in just a few months.

The underside of the door gasket seems to be collecting gunk. I only used fabric softener 2 or 3 times in the past year.

Any one using LG front loader? any advice is much appreicated. Thanks!

          Funz:
I just replaced my Fisher & Paykel washer last Saturday with a Panasonic washer. Been using the old washer for close to 10 yrs oredi. No repairs needed no issues but finally konked on Friday. Thought a repair will likely cost close to a new washer so did not bother with repair went out and got a new one.

The Panasonic washer is suppose to consume 50% less energy and water and is 20% quieter. So far, it is very quiet. As for water and energy consumption, can only see after a few months.

I did away with our dryer as well when it konked last year. Did not replace with another and my energy consumption went down immediately. Figured since I have a helper and we have a garden, there is no real need for a dryer. It is still best to dry our clothes under the sun.
          Hi Funz,

So how's the Panasonic washer so far?

Samsung is good. I bought the same model as my mil. I used mine for 7 yrs, left it with the new owner when we moved out, mil's one still working fine and it has been around for 18 years already.

I am using Fisher & Paykel Top-load washing machine, the drying speed is very high +1000mph and with the smart drive system which can control the time consuming. Almost 9 years old still very practical. And you can take out and wash the plastic material part to prevent the sticky and dirt accumulated.

I’ve been using front loaders ever since we move into our current place almost 11 years ago.

My first one was a Bosch, and there was a minor repair after a few months. Lucky still under warranty then. All in all, the Bosch lasted me about 5.5 years.

Currently using LG. The wash cycle is slightly shorter than the Bosch (thank goodness). Hopefully this will last me for a couple more years until we move to our new place.

One thing I look for when buying a front loader is actually the size of the opening. Some of the front loaders have a very small opening. To me, kind of hard to load/unload laundry, especially bulkier items.

Pros of front loader - laundry is definitely cleaner
Cons - long washing cycle, can only use low suds detergent & more maintenance (must completely dry the rubber and drawer after every wash, or they get really gross)

Hi all, I use a Bosch 10.5 kg and a 7 kg dryer. I agree that the washing time can be a little long but It’s been keeping my clothes clean. I would suggest Fisher and paykel for anyone buying new appliance. I had that when in singapore and it worked great. Left it for the new owners I sold my apt to. Many complained about gunk in the front loading machines. The trick is to wipe it and leave the door open between washes otherwise it WILL get gunk . There is never any need to use more detergent nor hot water beyond 30C

It’s gentler on clothes and enough to get them clean. Another mistake is to use too much
laundry softener. Just a tbsp per load is enough and will not leave gunk in the drums of the machine, whether it’s the washer or the dryer. Just my 2 cents.

Bought my Samsung front loader from Courts but didn’t buy the dryer. About $700 - $800 for 7kg load. Mine has a ceramic heater for hot washes. It was super heavy and the 2 delivery boys almost dropped it when moving it from the lorry to the trolley.
