To go to a JC, you need to use L1R5. The requirement is a L1R5 of not more than 20 (gross), a pass in EL and meets the MT and mathematics requirement. Please refer to the link for more information.

      https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/default-source/document/education/admissions/jae/files/section-6---jae-information-booklet.pdf

If you are interested in the 'A' level track, you may consider MI with L1R4.

Speaking to reporters after the press briefing, Ministry of Education’s director of schools Liew Wei Li said that the ministry recognises that alumni and students "feel a lot" for their schools. This merger exercise was particularly challenging because it involved JCs.

Based on 2017 cut-off-point for Science/IB and Arts) released by MOE, the top 11 JCs were spared.:
        1. RI (4, 4)
        2. HCI (4,4)
        3. VJC (5,7)
        4. ACSI (5)
        5. NJC (6,7)
        6. NYJC (6,7)
        7. ACJC (7,8)
        8. SJI (7)
        9. EJC (9,9)
        10. TJC (9,9)
        11. SAJC (9,10)

An ex-teacher has this to say:

In hindsight, Pioneer JC (1999), Meridian JC (2003) and Innova JC (2005) should probably not have been built.

Especially so when secondary schools were subsequently allowed to start JC sections under the Integrated Programme (IP): Dunman High (2005), River Valley High (2006), ACS Independent (2008) and SJI Independent (2013).

In addition, specialised independent schools were set up that have JC sections as well: NUS High School of Math and Science (2005), SOTA (2008).

Plus you have a spanking new Eunoia JC set up in 2017 to primarily take in IP students from Catholic High School, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School.

So actually since the turn of the century, we had 10 schools entering the JC market to compete for pre-university students:

        3 new JCs,
1 new JC set up for IP students,
4 secondary schools with newly started JC sections (IP), and…
2 new secondary schools with JC sections (IP).

So while the newspapers are talking all about population decline, that is only one part of the reason for the closures of 4 JCs. One can see population decline coming a mile away.

The seemingly reckless expansion of JCs and the Integrated Programme in secondary schools from 1999 to 2017, in spite of clear demographic change, is the reason why MOE is now closing down 4 JCs.

Of course, an error of this magnitude is quite uncharacteristic of Singapore’s MOE.

So what might actaually have happened? I suggest that what we had was a brutal competition set up between the traditional JC system and the Integrated Programme system.

In the race between JCs and the Integrated Programme (IP), it’s pretty clear that MOE and the consumers - parents and students - have decided that the IP has won.

        - From an ex-teacher of a soon-to-be-axed JC

SJI Cut off point for 2017 JC 1 is 7, 2016 JC 1 was 6. You can check from the MOE website.

Dear Parents, my son who applied PSC scholarship (teaching service) received a letter from PSC and mentioned that " the commission recommended you for a provisional scholarship with MOE and we are referring you to MOE for their consideration…". Does it mean that my son has been rejected by PSC and referred for MOE scholarship? He has attended final interview conducted by PSC Chairman and panel. Thanks.

I believe your son is being offered the scholarship, it is under 'provisional' typically because your son has not secured a firm acceptance from the university he is applying or still in the process of applying.
