Speaking to reporters after the press briefing, Ministry of Education's director of schools Liew Wei Li said that the ministry recognises that alumni and students \"feel a lot\" for their schools. This merger exercise was particularly challenging because it involved JCs.


Based on 2017 cut-off-point for Science/IB and Arts) released by MOE, the top 11 JCs were spared.:

Dear Parents, my son who applied PSC scholarship (teaching service) received a letter from PSC and mentioned that " the commission recommended you for a provisional scholarship with MOE and we are referring you to MOE for their consideration…". Does it mean that my son has been rejected by PSC and referred for MOE scholarship? He has attended final interview conducted by PSC Chairman and panel. Thanks.

I believe your son is being offered the scholarship, it is under 'provisional' typically because your son has not secured a firm acceptance from the university he is applying or still in the process of applying.

My niece is in year 1 Pioneer Jc. She scored mainly C for her subjects. The teacher say most kids will improve. Are Pioneer Jc papers tough? Will most do better for A levels? Worried because need at least B to qualify for most Uni courses.

My DD is going through Stress, Depression and lack of Confidence. She is taking her A level Prelim Now. I feel the curriculum is difficult for her to cope. I am worried she may give up life. What should I do?

Is A level curriculum too difficult for an average student? I believe this year MOE changed the curriculum and even make it more hard. I do not know what to do another two months left for her final ‘A’ level exam.

I hope your daughter's FT can help. If not, maybe see a counsellor? There should be one in school, or they can refer you to one.

The JC years can be hard, but the average JC student usually does quite well in the end. It varies by the JC, but even in the weakest JCs, more than a third of students will qualify for university. Of course, the choice of courses may be limited. The main thing is to be realistic about the desired outcomes, and be prepared to try something else if the first choice is not possible, and realise that it is not \"failure\" but an \"alternative choice\". Even strong students won't necessarily get what they are aiming for as there is stiff competition at all levels, and the most important is that they realise that not getting what theire first choice is not the end of the world.

My daughter is also taking A levels this year, and although she is not struggling academically, she is aiming for some competitive paths and may not get them, so I'm also reminding her not to focus on just a narrow range, but to be open to whatever comes. My older daughter took her A levels last year, and has always been quite a weak student - her teachers warned us that she was unlikely to get good enough grades to go to university. So she applied for a poly, didn't get her first choice, and got into another course. To our surprise, she did do well enough in the end to get into a couple of university courses, and she chose 1 of them, again not one she had considered before. Our main concern was to keep telling her that no matter what the route, as long as she kept going forward, it was OK, and not to compare with others.
