      Someone told me that any score lower than 250 is the end of the world - at least for your child. Is this true? Sorry, I am new in Singapore and hence don't understand all this. Thanks for help...

      It is the end of their children's world (if they think this way), NOT yours.. πŸ˜‰

        I pity the children of this parent who says that scoring less than 250 is the end of the world. Can you imagine the stress the poor kid is under?

          Personally, I feel that if my kids can do at least 230 & above, they would have some decent school choices.

            not true

            250 and above = top 10% of the cohort

            not in top 10% is NOT the end of the world

            people who told you so were just trying to pull your leg or trying to impress you or scare you

            250 & above = top 10%

            What about top 5%? 265 & above?

              @karenmok;

              Lol! Who on earth told you that? That's pretty insulting to those who get lower than 250 you know 😞 its like implying our future is GONE.

              It depends on the person on what is a \"good\" PSLE score.

              I think those people who did better in PSLE than their usual work and exams can be considered good.

              Practice makes perfect. Improvement is the key.

                @jtoh;

                πŸ˜‚ The parents have too high expectations. They can't set such high goals for their children when not like they themselves can make it... Getting 250 and up is very stressful.

                Btw, karenmok are u a new Singaporean PR? πŸ™‚ if so, welcome to SG πŸ˜„

                  What about top 5%? 265 & above?[/quote]approximately :

                  top 10% = 250 and above ==> IP schools, about 4000 kids

                  EESIS is top 1/3 of IP schools, usually around 260, hence 260 and higher = top 3%

                  265 or higher could be the top 1%

                  on average, 1% = 400 kids, 10% = 4000 kids, each cohort approx 40k to 42k kids
