Appeal Secondary One Posting
-
Dear all members,
First, sorry if I do not post in wrong subforum because I am newbie here.
Second, let's me tell my story:
- I am final year nus student looking for information about appealing for secondary school. My younger brother was awarded Singapore government merit award. However, he is randomly allocated to Tanglin secondary school. From information I gathered, it seems that Tanglin is not so good. In my opinion, the study environment is the main factor for a good student so I want to ask if is there anyway to appeal for higher ranking school? If anyone experiences or have information for this case, please advice me.
Thank you very much

What is Singapore government merit award? Are you referring to Edusave Merit Bursay? How did he ended being posted to Tanglin? The posting goes by merit and by your own choice of school before the posting.Dear all members,

yes. Basically, it’s Asean scholarship for vietnamese students. My brother got into interview round after pass the exam but failed the scholarship. Top 20 students get scholarship. Next 20 students will get merit award to be allowed to study in singapore and pay the fee as singaporean students.
With this award, you are able to declare the residential area and the MOE will allocate you… I regretted that I didn’t choose the area carefully. -

I have spoken to the admin staff at NJC last Thur and was told the appeal process starts only on 23 Dec in NJC. Maybe you can approach them and see if they have changed their minds.
just to share my experienec.. my son did not do well last year, the sec sch we selected cut-off points went up 3 points. :!: so we appeal... the school respond 'they are full' vancancy will depend on whether anyone choose to leave the sch. This is what i have done
1) Ask MP to write appeal letter to the principle.
2) Write another personal appeal letter to sch.
3) Call and talk to the person in charge
4) Call MOE to check on what the sch said is correct or not. (Its confirm, the sch corhort is set by MOE, the sch cannot increase the class size)
But i heard IP program sch is different...not too sure abt that.
So we waited, end result..no one left the sch. so we have to settled for 2nd choice. Buy uniform, text etc last min. Told my son to work harder in sec 1. During sec 1 he scored top 10% of the whole cohort in tat sch and we successfully transfer him to another sec. That is another painful exercise. Luck sometimes have to play a part. :celebrate: -

But after we enrol at the school posted, will there be time to goto the other school to appeal ?
What is the procedure ? Just fill up forms or make appointment to see principal ?
Doubt principal would want to speak to us ! -
Hi, my DD scored 240 for P.S.L.E and has chosen crescent girl's sec. as first choice, followed by Yishun Town sec. and Nan Hua sec. Does anyone know how to appeal for secondary school as I was actually a little too ambitious to put Crescent girl's as first choice??? :? Thx.
And BTW,I have heard that we can appeal 2 sec schools too. Is this true??? Does anyone knows anything about it??? Thanks for ur help. I really appreciate it.
