Chung Cheng High (Main)

Hi cutepolarbear,
Thank you for the info 😊. Yes, the environment is lovely. Hope that she can get in too. -
Hi all,
My child has a score of 248, HC +2. We are torn between AHS and CCH. We stay in Simei, so it takes us 25 mins to get to AHS but an hour to CCH. May I know what’s the estimate % of CCH students who went on to NYJC? The affliation is very attractive to us. But at the same time, distance and travelling time are a bit discouraging. Can experienced parents in CCH share more information regarding the school pls? Thanks. -

I am not a CCHM parent but I just wanted to point out that Anglican High is affiliated to SAJC. So unless it is because you prefer ny to sa, otherwise both have an affiliated jc. And if your o level is say 12 (2 a1, 2 a2, 2 b3), minus 4 is 8, you cant go to ny anyway. So the affiliation may not work.

You could prob ask at the NYJC thread, what proportion of JAE are from CCHM. -
Thanks for the advice. Have done so

CCHM produces better results compared to AHS, campus is also much bigger. Now, she is v happy and excelling in academics. AHS and CCHM students pretty much know each other and from what I hear, my daughter said CCHM students are a lot more hardworking. Most of the travelling time is on the mrt. For the good results, affiliation, campus and teachers, I think the travelling is worth it!

Hi all,
My child has a score of 248, HC +2.

If you choose Anglican High (SAP school), is a ditect straight-forward affliation to St Andrew Junior College, in that there is already an affliated A-level JC awaiting you. The path lying ahead of you, is a smooth path
2)
But,
if you choose Chung Cheng High (Main), can be a bumpy rough ride, for some.
What was last year (2019 O-level batch) Cut-off-point into Nanyang Junior College ?
for Science stream : it was 6
from Moe website (source)
https://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=0805
Under affliation,
this means that maximum,
your L1R5 cannot exceed 10 points, assuming that
you have managed to clear your Higher Chinese successfully, by scoring either an (A1 or A2 or B3) in your Sec 3 O-level (Standard Chinese) bu-hua.
Why 10 points (L1R5) ?
because
a) 2 discount points, off your clearance of O-level (Higher Chinese)
b) 2 discount points, off your clearance in Cca points
However,
bear in mind that not every Sec 4 student will end up with two Cca points. For some, they only scored 1 miserable Cca point.
So, for these students with 1 Cca point, instead of
(10 minus 4 discount points),
they ended up with
(10 minus 3) instead.
So, can these CCH (Main) students go back to their affliated NYJC ?
No
Not for Science stream,
because armed with 7 points, they failed to meet NYJC Science stream Cut-off-point (at 6 points)
Maybe can still go NYJC (Arts stream) with 7 points ?
Yes, cut off was 7, for Arts stream
===========================
Another scenario, to take note of
What happen,
if Sec 3 students scored
(B4 or C5 or C6) in their Sec 3 (O-level Standard Chinese (bu-hua) National exam ?
CCH (Main) school said
No, next year Sec 4,
you got to repeat & re-sit For your O-level bu-hua one more time. Hopefully, you will score a better grade this time round since given a second chance, to help you in your L1R5 admission into JC ...
in case your O-level bu-hua subject turn out to become one of the core subjects used to compute your L1R5, so you need to do well in your bu-hua.
However, they will be barred from taking O-level (Higher Chinese) exam, because they are going to re-take O-level (Standard Chinese).
So, what happen?
Did this group of (B4 / C5 / C6) bu-hua students managed to clear their HCL hurdle obstacle ?
No, they could not
So, they are unable to get 2 discount points off HCL clearance
But,
if they still want to go back to their Affliated NYJC, because they love Nanyang JC so much, what must they score now, in order to go back ?
need 8 points !
No longer just need 10 points
Why 8 ?
because
(8 minus 2 points for Cca clearance equal 6, for NYJC (Science stream )
Is it hard (difficult) or easy, to clinche 8 points in your L1R5 ?
(only yourself, can answer)
==========================
may we ask, is your P6 son or daughter strong in Higher Chinese ?
If No,
would suggest that you choose Anglican High instead, because truth be told, Psle HCL is easy, but Secondary school HCL is tough.
If come here,
And
if your Chinese isn't strong,
unfortunately end up score a
(B4 / C 5 / C6) in O-level bu-hua, barred from taking O-level ( Higher Chinese), you run the risk of missing the precious, valuable 2 discount points clearance in your L1R5, cannot go back to beloved affliated NYJC.
Furthermore,
you also mentioned that Anglican High is very near your house. Isn't this convenient ? Every morning, no need to wake up so early go to school ?
Besides,
does Anglican High, also another SAP school, impose the same identical cornering restriction on this O-level (bu-hua) minimum must score a B3 clearance, before let you sit for O-level (gao-hua) ?
Please go and confirm with Anglican High Chinese Head-of-department. If the answer is No, is obvious, which school to go for.
In stark contrast,
if your child's Chinese is very strong & powerful, by all means, come to Chung Cheng High (Main), since clearing bu-hua (B3 minimum) won't be a stumbling block nor hurdle

Anyway, I read from one of the threads that there are more AHS students in NYJC than CCH, though I am not sure whether the person was referring to CCHMS + CCHYS combined or just CCHMS. On the average, about 40 CCHMS students go to NYJC every year.
Like what the others mentioned, affiliation is very attractive, but please bear in mind that NYJC's COP is not exactly high and thus, it is rather difficult to enter the school. Even though NYJC's Science COP this year was 6, I heard that a student who had 10-4 only got in after appeal.
Also, information provided above might be true for schools generally, but not true to CCHMS.
