What about undergrad trainers? Would they be competent enough to take on math olympiad classes?

some of the trainers who are undergrad were themselves previously math olympiad champ ....possible 'gooder' than many grads in teaching MO

Hi anyone tried the IQ K1 or K2 maths courses at Mathshub? I am attracted by the IQ name of it, but does it really expose the kids to the kind of higher-order thinking questions in P1, or mostly it just covers the basics foundation?

        Appreciate any feedback.

        Thanks.

Undergrad might be good enough to handle the Maths Olympiad questions but might not have teaching experience. In other word, Knowledge & teaching skill is 2 different things. Not all teachers are equal. In that case, why not consider getting an undergrad for 1 to 1 home tuition at the same cost?

1-to-1 tuition means the tutor has less resources to deploy / use, less examples to quote, less practice questions to give out

for MO - I think math hub has quite a library of materials that they can use. this is one area where an enrichment centre has an edge over private tuition unless the private tutor has been around for many years, doing full time and has built up a range of reference materials

Wouldn’t the past competition papers be sufficient to hone the mathematicals skills for competition?

                mummy so kiasu:
I sent my son to Kovan Maths Hub for their holidays SMOPS training. We were very surprised that the trainer was very young & not very experienced. The front counter staff also did not give us proper direction & we could not find our way to the centre on the first day. We were told that lessons will be from 1.15 to 3.15pm upon signing up. To our surprise, the lessons have been change from 1 to 3pm from 3rd lesson onward, without informing & checking with us.

My boy was 20 mins late on the 1st & 3rd lesson & I was 20 mins late to pick up my boy on the 3rd lesson. According to my son, his school Maths Olympiad's trainer, which is from Interactive Math, is more experienced & gives better explanation. According to his teacher, Maths Hub's trainers are undergrads who only work on questions & do not teach concepts. I think it is very costly to pay $350 for 5 sessions of group coaching conducted by an undergrad.
We would like to express our sincere apologies to Mummy so kiasu for your unpleasant experience with Maths Hub @ Kovan and appreciate your feedback on our instructors and support staff. We will strive to prevent any future miscommunication resulting in unhappiness and inefficiency. We have since educated the support staff that any changes made pertaining to lesson should be communicated to parents via letter, email or text message. We will continue to provide the best to our students and seek your kind understanding in any disorganization.

Our centres engage both graduates and non-graduates instructors who are passionate in Math and nurturing children, especially those who excel in Olympiad Math or major in Math. Hence, parents can be assured that our utmost effort in providing the best programmes to all our students will not be compromised within our means.

Our apologies again to Mummy so kiasu. If you do have any further feedback or suggestions, please feel free to contact us directly. We would also like to thank everyone who have supported our programmes as our success would not have been possible if not for your unstinting support.

                  Hi Seanwife.

My DS is with MATH ARENA (Tampines maths hub) for past 2 years but P5-P6 grp. I have friends who sent for IQ math course there. Children are enjoying the classes. I know it is far beyond what is covered in normal kindergarden school. P1 dont have higher order thinking questions except basic foundation add/sub/div etc and their course covers beyond that. but I dont have the exact syllabus to tell u the extent. Suggest you talk to the center head or someone they to guide you.

some undergrad trainers are really good. My DS in MathArena(maths hub tampines), He was under experienced teacher for Olympiad class last year and due to school schedule I need to choose another timing (I was really worried leaving the class handled by a good trainer) . this year handled by fresh graduate My DS liked his class and so I hear the same feedback from sec 1,2 students (SMO) as well. My DS has similar good trainer in school olympiad session .So who traines doesnt matter, it is how skilled they are and how they handle the kids. Good that Parents talk to the centre 😄

                      Hi,

what is the class size for P6 Maths in Maths Hub?

Appreciate feedback on their holiday programme, in particular, the PSLE A* Maths.

                      thank you.

Hi Parents & Maths Hub, would need some advice. I was thinking of sending my boy for math enrichment programme at Maths Hub but do not know which suit him best. His school result is above average about 92 since P1. He is now in P4, and he told me he might need help in solving problem sum faster or if there are any useful method or technique to apply when solving some challenging sum. Usually he can do the sum but need to think more and solve the problem sum base on his own concept of understanding and his own working. When checking on Onsponge math, his answer is correct but we realise the given solution working is very straight forward but do not understand how it was work out. He did not attend any enrichment sofar.

What is the different between Olympiad Maths and Heuristic Math and the normal problem sum? Is it true that one need to acquire the skill of handle OM in order to better handle Maths in PSLE. How about just follow what the school teach, would it be enough?

Really hope to clear all these doubts so that can guide my ds better. TIA for any feedback.
