Hi,
Any parents here sent their kids to Maths hub at Bukit Bakot for tuition on Sec 1 Maths and Science ? how do you find it ? good ? -
We were with Maths Hub @ Bt Batok for a very brief period. One aspect I like about this centre is they do allow kids to progress at their own pace. My son went for P1 trial class and was allowed to progress to P2 thereafter (subjected to the teacher’s consent). He actually requested for Maths Olympiad class after the first P2 lesson but was denied. The teacher felt it was too early and Math Olympiad may be too dry and drilling for him. She was willing to consider that after a couple of months.
If there are too many students with different strengths in a class, the centre will also consider splitting the class into 2 groups. The higher ability group will progress at a faster speed while the other group will receive more attention from the teachers. This is what I understand from the lady at the reception counter.
Content wise (based on 4 lessons), it’s at a slightly faster pace than the school’s syllabus and incorporates some IQ questions (pretty manageable). Extra attention has also been given to questions such as less than and more than. The lesson itself lasts 2 hours. The students will work on problems for 1.5 hrs and have hands-on activities for the remaining time. Hands-on activities includes puzzles, origami etc.
In our case, Maths Hub wasn’t what we were looking for. I was hoping to find some classes that cover stuff outside the school syllabus. If you have Maths Hub in mind, I suggest sending your child for a $30 trial class. At least, you can then decide if the centre will be able to help your child progress better. -
I dislike Mathhub coz they publish your kids name and result on their web, even if you quit or did not attend the specific training module such as NMOZ during holiday. If the kids score top/distinction, it may means they just being trainned and by MathHub, else if the result is so so, it is not so nice also…
I pull my kid out due for this reason and join training centre who does not publish students result on the web. -

Even though the publishing of results is always controversial, looking at the results of maths olympiad training should always be taken with a pinch of salt, since a student might have undergo multiple training (perhaps at school or with a private tutor or another centre) or for the above reason.I dislike Mathhub coz they publish your kids name and result on their web, even if you quit or did not attend the specific training module such as NMOZ during holiday. Perhaps the publishing of results is more relevant to students from neighbourhood schools where they might not have the luxury of having a school trainer or private tutor.
So which training centre did your kid join? -
My p1 gal is attending the holiday programme at Math hub bukit batok. Some IQ questions are covered for every lesson. The rest of the lesson is usually hands on and some sums covering advanced syllabus. For eg.p1 doing p3 standard sums. As such, though my gal has band 1 in her own sch math, she stumbles when she attempts the sums in math hub.
Am looking for a math enrichment class for her cos she is not so mathematically inclined… But wonder if she will feel demoralized if I send her to math hub lesson weekly?
Any parents can advice? Thanks! -

it seems like they have removed the name list - recentlyI dislike Mathhub coz they publish your kids name and result on their web, even if you quit or did not attend the specific training module such as NMOZ during holiday. I just visited their website.
Wow! Now you can even register for lessons online. So high-tech  -
More than 30 % of the top 30 individuals were trained by Maths Hub group.
