Comparing Science Enrichment Programs

I went to the trial class last sat. My DD likes it. She said Teacher Fara was very patient in answering her doubts. Especially the P6 topics. She came home telling me all about \"Gravitational Potential energy\" and \"Chemical Potential energy\" (something that I have no recall knowledge off!). All I can see is that she came home feeling confident and though PSLE is round the corner I hope she feels ready.
Both my DDs enjoy going to their Science tuition every week. If they miss the lesson, they will ask to go for makeup, never did that happen for their Chinese tuition. That's something I like to see- they love learning for themselves. Now that my DD1 who is in year 1 is asking if there is any hands-on Science tuition for Sec. Anyone know?MeN2others:

If your kid is P6, ask for teacher Fara, as she is experienced in P6, though a little naggy (keep reminding my DD to take note of this and that). -
Oh, one parent told me I gave the wrong tel no.
Sorry.
Science Alive’s tel is 63488066 -
Anyone got their schedule… tks

tried Growan and didn’t like it at all.

Not many choices left … : (

My girl tried Growan for 2 terms when she was in P3 (English, Maths, Science) and didn’t like it. As parent, I thought it is easier for me to put her there for 3 subjects (one after another) on Sat but it didn’t help her much. Growan is more like a mass tuition doing worksheets after worksheets. Maybe it is her character, she needs more interactive studying method, hence I changed to other centres for her.

Dear Margylane75, MeN2others and Love Clouds,
We just want to say a big THANK YOU (especially from our Lala and Fara). Your appreciation & compliments brought a huge smile to all our faces today! Our team @ Science Alive is lucky to really love what we do- which is inspiring young minds to fall in love & STAY IN LOVE with SCIENCE. We hope this love can distinguish us from other centres. We also love to get more feedbacks from you on ways we can further improve~ Pls PM us!Margylane75:

I went over to the centre mention this morning. I spoke to the admin staff Lala and she was very informative and patient ( I ask endless questions!). Though she's not the teacher she explains very well I must say!. My DD is doing PSLE this year and looking at their lesson plans I am quite happy. I sign up for a trial suggested by Lala next Saturday and will see if it works for her. I didn't get to talk to teacher Fara. Though I have a good feeling with Science Alive. Hopefully!
My son was taught by Teacher Farah when he was in P4 all the way to PSLE. He is now currently in RI. Never in a million years I would have imagined my son to be in RI. P3 Science was a struggle fr my boy. But after much help from Farah he finally gets A* for Science for PSLE. She is a very patient teacher. Always ready to help when in doubt. I would recommend her really. I didn't know that she is now in Science Alive. Will definitely pay her a visit. N also equally important, Lala, the admin staff made my life easier. As a working mum who constantly travel, scheduling and planning is very important. Whenever there's interruption (eg public hols or personal matter) it's always a headache for me to reschedule n replace his classes. Unlike other tuition centres who always gave me the 'Come-or-get-forfeited-lor' attitude, Lala will literally sat down with me and plan my boy's replacement Science class and make sure that he will not miss any of his class. Totally value for money I tell ya! Esp d last few months of PSLE Lala helped me a lot in d scheduling and as my son has so much xtra classes in school. It was a turn-off when other tuition centre keep giving me the NO-REFUND-HOR and DAMN-MAFAN-LOR-THIS-LADY look. Try them out. I had nothing but good praises for them.
-

Sometimes, it is really a gamble. Though we can't predict the quality of the tutor/ educator, we can determine what we really want for our children.
Science, for instance, it is most effective to know what your child wants to focus on (not what the adult want to focus on). To know what your child wants to focus is the challenge, and if conquered, most likely, any child can soar.
The question to ask what is it that the child needs.
Does the child needs help in explaining the concept to him in the manner he understands?
Or does the child needs help just application of the concepts?
Or does the child need help in understanding the answering aspect, dependant on the various questioning such as Derive, List, Explain, Describe etc. Different questions need different way of answering.
Maybe we can keep the tutor and all we need maybe is to derive a strategy and work with the tutor addressing the child's primary need.
Similar learning strategy can be used for Math too.
My 2 cents,
