MOE Kindergarten

My child is in MOE kindergarten Punggol View and he just started school last week. There are 3 teachers for about 18 students in the class, and the teachers are young and friendly. I assume they are local as I'm not so sure for the Chinese teacher. She may be PRC. I chat with my child every evening to probe him on what he learnt, what he liked in school, his friends and whether he thinks the teachers are nice. So far, the feedback from him has been positive. Hope it stays that way!

Your child will be in good hands as Punggol View MOE kindy has an excellent principal. Hope it is still the first principal as when the school starts operation. -

Are Hanyu Pinyin and spelling taught in the MOE Kindergartens?
The focus of language learning in the pre-school years is on developing the listening and speaking skills of children. This will lay the foundation for language learning in later years. Hanyu Pinyin is part of the Primary 1 curriculum and children will be taught when they start formal schooling.
Word recognition should be taught in context, so children are not given word or spelling lists to memorise. Instead, children at the MOE Kindergartens will learn words in context so that they understand the meaning of the words and make use of them in their speech and writing.
