All About Right Brain Training

My elder girl was with Shichida since 1yr old and stayed on for the next 5yrs. I did home practice daily (only rest 1 day per week). Many of her Shichida friends dropped out as they did not see result after a few terms (they hardly do home practice). Only those who stayed on with home practice (at least 3 to 4 times a week) noticed that their kids benefited from the program.
I did not send my second baby to Shichida but started home practice since she was 2mth old. I used both Shichida and Glenn Doman materials in my lessons with her. Now she is 21 months old. Noticed that she is very curious about things around her, loves to read (and always wants me to read to her), and is able to do 3-4 pieces of puzzles etc.
I cannot compare Shichida and MLG as my children never attend MLG. But I think from my experience, early exposure to quality information (math, reading, vocab etc) with visual tracking, speed reading, quality audio etc will definitely benefit the child. -

Hi,
Hi Smurfymum,smurfymum:
Hi singsongcity,
My son attended MLG when he was 11 months old. He has been attending for 4 terms already. Initially, he was crawling around but after a while, he more or less settled down and can see that he is enjoying the lessons. The teachers there are lively and encouraging. The lessons are bilingual. One week is in Mandarian and the next in English. Thats what I like as kids I believe need to be immensed in the language to learn the language. They do things like memory training, flashcards, pretend play, early reading, songs and many more activities. Very fast pace which is good as it attracted attention of my son. One very obvious benefits I noticed is that he can recognise words (both english and chinese words) from their early reading part this year. He started to read some of these words when I show him the words which is very amazing! He also enjoys the memory training part and is quite good at it now although it take him a while to understand what is happening.
Thanks for telling me more about mlg. You must be very proud that your son can recognise words at such a young age! Can he read the words also? Both chinese and english words? Do you have to practise at home? Sorry for so many questions as want to make sure it is a good place to send to and can really benefit from it. Thanks!
I am definitely proud of my son for being able to recognise and read the words at such an young age! However, the most important thing is that he enjoys the lessons. He can read and recognise both chinese and english words although we speak english most of the time to him. The good thing is that the in mlg, the chinese and english teachers are different teachers. So my son associate with them as english and chinese teachers. So when he communicate eith them, he also tend to use either mandarian or english depending on which teacher.
I feel that it is important to go into these lessons with low expectations and just to let the child enjoy and learn at his own pace. That way, there won't be stress for myself as well as the child. I did practise with him at home as long as he enjoys it. Personally feel that we as parents also need to put in some work in order to see the results. -

Wow! You stayed for 5 years! Don't know whether I can last so long. Hopefully....... I agree with you. Definitely need to do some home practise to see results. Actually does not take up a lot of time. Only 5 to 10minutes a day but sometimes tend to be lazy. Many of mlg parents (my batch) also drop out after 1 to 2 terms as they don't practise at home and they are not patience enough to see results from the child. Glad I carried on!My elder girl was with Shichida since 1yr old and stayed on for the next 5yrs. I did home practice daily (only rest 1 day per week). Hi,
I do agree with Mishasha.
I also send my kid to Shichida... and lessons is only once a week.
A lot of work have to be done by us parents to teach our kids.
Whether Shichida, MLG or Heguru, as long as parents and baby feels comfortable with the classes, then I think is fine.

Hi.
Thank you all for your views on mlg and shichida. I have decided to sign up for mlg and hopefully it will be a great experience for my son. Also found out about shichida from friends but decided to explore mlg as it is 1)cheaper, 2)heard some bad comments on shichida’s philippines teachers from friends who are there and most importantly, 3) dual language of mlg lessons. I will have to be consistence with practice in order for my son to benefit fully from it. Wish me luck! -

Hi mummies
I have a boy who is now 4 years old. He is currently attending speech and drama class. I am thinking of what enrichment to let him take for next year. Is right brain training too late for him?
I also realized that right brain courses doesn’t come cheap. It also involves a lot of parent’s practice with the kid on a daily basis. May I know whether any parent self teach kids on right brain training?
If I were to do right brain training for my kid, where can i buy the materials?
Many thanks for mummies advice. -

Hi Xue Yan,
I believe it is still not too late to start your child. I do know mothers that send their 3 and 4 yr old child for HEGURU right brain training in Malaysia..
and they do see some improvement in their vocabulary and memory.
Whether you send your child to any right brain schools, you have to do a lot of practice by yourself. The classes are only once a week and less than 2 hours.
If you plan to do right brain training with your child... do check out http://www.rightbraineducationshop.com, they have
over 10,000 flash cards and other related topics that are covered by right brain schools
