SPEEDY CHINESE CHARACTER RECOGNITION
The content of this programme is based on Singaporean historical and cultural practices. A total of 3,500 unique Chinese characters from Primary 1 to Secondary 4 Chinese Language syllabus which is approved by the Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) will be taught to the chilc.
Students will get to undergo the "Focused Word Learning" programme in a familiar environment, which serves to simplify the process of word learning.
The 3,500 characters taught will not only ensure that students will be able to read any Chinese books or materials independently but also guarantee that students will be able to read up to 99.59% of the Chinese characters.
Through reading, students will be able to learn new words, phrases and sentence structure and hence improve their comprehension and literary skills.
This programme will help students strengthen their command of the Chinese language. It can be almost guaranteed that these 3,500 words are sufficient for the lifetime usage for the students, excluding those studying Chinese literature. -
This is the one piloted in 醒南 primary school ? I read a newspaper article about it. I am curious whether it is as effective as it claims.
Any KSP with experience can share some feedback ? -
Is this similar to those 先认字后写字 programme ??

I enrolled my child in Speed learning and word recognition when he was in Pri 1... not sure if its the same course we are talking abt here.. but it was a huge mistake.. he went from a above average (as cited by his school teacher at beginning of year) to below average student. The course were run by PRC and the standards were too high for my child to cope. The teacher even suggested for me to engage private tutor for my child....This is the one piloted in 醒南 primary school ? I read a newspaper article about it. I am curious whether it is as effective as it claims.

However, my younger child started when she was abt 4YO with the same school and she coped very well...
So my conclusion is the course sits well for young learners and set as foundation however not sure abt the Pri curriculum so I pulled my 2nd child out once she completed the Hanyu Pinyin course. To-date, she can recognise more chinese words than her brother. -

Just wondering, do you reckon this is a girl versus boy thing when it comes to languages? Girls seem to have more language acumen than boys in general. -
Tao Nan school is running this as a recommended optional supplementary course, starting from P1.
