What are your \"priorities\"?Hi, BigDevil
I hope to get something between $500 to $1,000K. Tx
- weight/battery life
- processing power
- graphics
If you need a good balance of those factors, can consider this ASUS UL30VT but price is $1298 nett
More details here http://www.asus.com.ph/product.aspx?P_ID=57XDSj2LxRg41F0d
Otherwise, you can also go for ASUS UL20A which I think is <1k -

On top of those considerations, I would also take warranty and service into account. No point having a top of the line notebook which is not working.

Personally, I would set aside another $200 to extend the warranty to 3 years from the standard 1 year. My sister recently bought a $1100+ notebook for her DD. She didn't want to spend the extra $130+ for the 3-year warranty. The question I have for her is...if the NB beaks down 13 months later and it would cost $300 to repair...do you repair, or pay another $1100 for a new one? You can call me a pessimist..but I don't want to get stuck with an expensive paper weight after just one year.
So now you have the extended warranty, how available is the service? For this, I loved Dell simply because they do NOT have a service centre! That's right..they don't have a service centre in Singapore. They outsourced their service to 3rd party, and this 3rd party engineers do house call! The next is HP (think Lenovo too?), which allows you to drop off the NB at any post office...but the turn around time will of course be longer than if you bring it to the service centre yourself. -
Hi BigDevil,
Which laptop brand would you recommend?
yes, I do agree that extend waranty is a must have.
Cheers! -
Personally, I would just go for Dell. Their pricing is competitive, and their products are not too bad. We have several of them in the office, and so far there haven't been any major issues other than the normal wear and tear as expected of heavy daily usage. Then the convenience of the on-site service is one major factor, since I won't have to take leave and then waste it waiting at a service centre.
We also have HP in the office and they are pretty good too, so that's one brand I would go for too.
Suggest you perhaps drop by tech sites like http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg to take a look at their forums. You will find personal experiences of users and that will probably give you a better guide of what to get.
Good luck with your search! -
If you’re not particular about which brand, you can consider ACER. Dw just bought an ACER from Challenger Whitesands for $849 which was good enough for surfing, word processing and Photoshop. ASUS also had an offer, $938 with a 2 yr warranty.
I have a personal dislike for Dell, but it’s because my company use to supply parts to them and they were very x 10 difficult customers. -

I am planning to shift my career to home-based freelancing since I have read positive feedback about work-at-home jobs. So, I am planning to buy a new workstation. I already have a Macbook but I want a more sturdy computer to suit my graphic design needs. Do you know any store here in One Tree Island that I could visit and check for options? We just move here a week ago so I am not really familiar with the places here. Thanks!
