Does DSA admission have a \"Singaporean first\" policy?
OT:phtthp:
The PRCs often hoot for either Maths or Chinese DSA domain.
You cannot say the 'PRCs would hoot the Chinese or Math domains', because they are all SCs on paper. Many Singaporean men married Chinese brides so their DC's surname is a local one and some may even have a Christian name
Over the past 2 weekends, due to CNY, I've been dining with a few SC kids whose dads are Singaporeans and moms Shanghainese. Needless to say, their HCL std is sky high.
If both parents are graduates from PRC (e.g. engineer), then it's almost certain their dc's Math will be as good as their HCL! :siam:
I'm sure they will get into ACS, MGS, SJI, RI, RGS via the Chinese domain with little effort

This is a very good qn asked, lee
Does DSA admission have a \"Singaporean first\" policy?
I also pondering over the same qn.
But let's say in Sports DSA, suppose after Sports audition was held, say in Badminton or table tennis (e.g.), if the coach feel that after all the selected P6 sports candidates had come down for audition, demo their skill set, if the coach feel that the PRC candidate is still the best so far overall, in terms of badminton skill, over & above all the rest of the SC kids he had seen so far, then I don't think \"Singaporean, first\" apply anymore, right ?
For Sports DSA -
are they looking for the Best talent (regardless of nationality), in that particular field of Sports,
OR
Are they looking restricted or confined within the boundary of Sg, then go & search for who are the SC talents, in that particular Sports ?
These two criteria : are different.
We are mindful of the fact that in Secondary schools, some (not all) of these Sports delegates are sent to represent Sg, in the Youth Olympics. Naturally, they will look for the best -

HAha! I don't think so! DSAs are discretionary. All based on merit!

The \"Singaporean\" in \"Singaporean First\" and \"Singapore/an Core\" slogans you often hear = SCs + PRs. SCs + PRs are always lumped together in labour surveys and NPTD reports.
1. Naturalised SC kids or PRs I mentioned above are treated no different from kids with indigenous Singaporean parents at DSA interviews.
2. If you're talking about foreign citizens/international students intending to join mainstream sec schs, I think they have to clear AEIS first before applying thru DSA.
http://www.rgs.edu.sg/admissions/admission-to-rgs/international-students
My view is if they can clear AEIS and DSA, well, so be it! If they are good and better than our dc, they deserve the slot.
3. If you're referring to those \"Phase 3\" (P1 registration) foreign students who've been studying here since P1, I think the numbers are very small as MOE offers very limited vacancies to foreigners at Phase 3. I'm not too concerned about this small group as they seldom apply thru DSA, right? Most foreign citizens would rather join international schools than to go through this onerous process to get into our coveted IP schools. -

Heard that many of those who couldn't make it into their own prestigious high schools had chosen to come over. Even these not so 'top-tier' kids are uber strong academically...and they are also a lot more hungry than our local kids. It's good for our kids...most are just too comfortable and needed that extra push from these foreigners. -
Oh My Gosh:
I will not name the school. There is a school which too many students DSA for basketball and did well at the trials. The coach/ Teacher in charge actually called up these students and ask them if there are other domains they can apply for (e.g. Academics, leadership etc with no commitments), as there are limited vacancies for DSA via basketball. Subsequently, the girl got a CO via Academics, and sign up for basketball as CCA.
I heard about similar thing in a top boys school too....eventually the boy chose DSA Acad and got picked by the CCA as well.
perhaps this mainstream student from NYPS : when compared to rest of other DSA candidates who also apply for DSA into RGS, there are many more other candidates who are stronger than her, in Science. So, She did not receive any DSA offer for Science, but in another subject, instead
Not heard of schools offering alternative. It is either CO, WL or Rejected in applicant's chosen domain
Also not heard of schools allowing application for multiple domains -
Hi All,
My son doing PSLE this year. Think I’m falling behind. Can any mum help me understand what is CO or WL? -
CO - confirmed offer. WL - waiting list
I am sure the other parents can fill in the details on the implications behind these terms -
Any body can share the idea how to prepare GAT and HAST test? Check the website, but not much infomatin can get.

Thank ImMeeMee. :thankyou:
I'm not even sure if I shld get my DS apply DSA. Sounds like it's real far fetch.
He's got only a silver for Mathlympic & Bronze for NMOS. Tho he participated and won Gold for Destination Imagination & qualified for Odyssey of the Mind. His scores for Eng, Math & Science >95 but MT only >85. Tried to get him active in sports, but he's only keen in recreational swimming, chess, soccer & tennis. Nothing at school or competition level. He did earn bronze for swimming test though.
Shld I just focus him on academic & PSLE route? Any parent can adv? :scratchhead:
