Try to bring in the fun part so that he will get interested and will not tink it's a chore, that is what I am trying to avoid with my 2nd boy. My son kept talking about the 'sad' girl and 'bad' boy this few days, so it has really stuck in his head. Just now he was looking for the 'pad' to start his drawing again. Only that tonight I was rushing my work and didn't have time to go through with him again but he seems more open to it now.

        Perseverance is definitely needed. 加油!
I \"copied\" tamarind and your idea, i look for real life items, when i cant find, i draw on A4 paper, my son likes them and they work! And it helped further that my #2 is \"fighting\" with him to tell me how to read a word. so like u say, now my son keeps \"C...AT, cat\", \"C AB, cab\" on n off even when Im not practicing with him :D... and i find he can understand the \"technique\" after the fun game

btw i read some pages on 45kuaidu that we shld stop the teaching when the kid is most \"excited\"...i tried that, and its true, my son looks fwd to the nx session coz i always stop when he wanted more.

Yes this is a very important trick that I learned from the 45kuaidu books, and it works really well for my boy πŸ˜‰

I also tried to do that. But there was a time when I didn't, I continue, thought that he could absorb more, and then he got bored, and after that, the next time we read it, he wasn't very keen anymore. 😞

              smurf,
When reading books, we must pretend that we are not trying to make our kids learn new words. Instead, we should focus on making reading fun and enjoyable. I used soft toys to act out the story, and also make real things inspired by the story. Check out my blog :

I know this, but I was impatient, I wanted him to know as many words in 1 sitting. 😞

It's not easy teaching kids, just have to keep trying πŸ˜‰

Cool! My son still a little confused with 3 letter words but I am not worried now a I have just started with him not too long. Trying to let him go at his pace.

The stopping at most \"excited\" part is a good point. I will learn to do that too. Thanks!

Hi smurf, I understand, sometimes I am also tempted to get him to learn more words in 1 sitting. Many times I have to stop myself. When I didn't, sometimes it can have detrimental effect.

Also, always have to be on high energy level when going through with him so as to keep him excited too...can be very tiring...haha....

                        Dear tamarind

Bought the Leapfrog Letter Factory and shown Starfall to my DD based on the recommendation here. It worked really well! she is going to be 2yrs soon and she has "kind of" mastered all the letters. I said "kind of" causes she still young and with only 8 teeth, some of the sounds is not that accurate. But when we sing the leapfrog song she can sound out all the letters. Also she will sound out the letter if she see them outside, so we know she know recognize the letters.

Need some advice… What should we do now? Continue "drilling" the letters until she is older liked 2.5 or 3 before starting on 3 letter words? We shown her the leapfrog talking word DVD but it seem abit complicated for her.

                        Thks
