High Tea

Hi,


Went to Royal Copenhagen located at Takashimaya for high tea 2day.

It consist of 2 scones, 2 open faced sandwiches, 2 cakes of your own choice and 2 cups of tea/coffee. If you are familiar with this place, their cakes really yummy. They serve the items in a tiered tray.

I used to go for high tea buffet alot when younger. My favourite were Parrots at the now demolished Marco Polo Hotel, the lounge at Marina Mandarin (served in a 3-tiered tray, refillable) and Cafe Vienna at Holiday Inn Hotel opposite Far East Plaza.

Any recommendations to share???

I heard Shangari-la has a pretty good high tea boasting the widest selection of tea leaves. I have not been there myself.

Am a fan of high tea too - more the buffet type rather than the tiered sets. Have been to cafe vienna in the past six months and I think it is the most value for money so far. Also tried the one at changi hotel. Quality was average but price very reasonable (came up to around $20 or a little less, after discount, if I recall correctly). Shangri La spread also rather limited for the price but the cakes are nice. The nonya high tea at the Paramount (east coast) very reasonably priced if you like nonya food.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go for the Raffles High tea. It was a rip off - spread was very limited (all local dishes like popiah, curry puffs, popiah, dim sum, local kuehs) and at a ridiculous price of around $50+ (after taxes)! The only highlight was a tiered tray of sandwiches and some cakes (two varieties only). It used to be so much better a couple of years ago. Recall their famous bread pudding.

Looking for new places to try too.

Ahhh yes, mrsbongz, this brings back nice memories ...... my first initiation into the world of having high-tea was when I was 14 when I was treated to one and it was in Goodwood. Wow, I felt like a princess, a small tai tai

Once I turned 20, it became quite a regular affair until I hit my late 20s. And you are rite, it is expensive but nice. Their bread and butter pudding, shiok .... Nowadays, being older, cannot go so often lah. Hve become v v selective

The one at Changi went yrs back, yeah I recall it was not bad then. Shangrila oso went b4, can't remember really whether it was nice, but the spread was limited. Paramount oso tried, again yrs back lah :oops:

That said, my feedback is quite dated, so must check it out for yourself. Thats why I started this thread lah ....

I also love high tea but have not gone for any in ages


Goodwood Park is one of my fav but not worth it to go for buffet now as I don't eat much nowadays. Royal Cophenagen is great too. Tehir finger food is nice too. tried something with mushroom (can't rem what it's called) and it was yummy.

There used to be this cafe at Vivocity which has wonderful views and nice cosy chairs. Too bad it closed down.

Goodwood Park brings back great memories for me too. Loved going there during Varsity days. We would eat until we were ‘drunk’ on food and go back giggling like little children! Ahhh…those were the days!

Goodwood has 2 types, the local and the English tea…

Billard Room in Raffles Hotel

Ritz, Greenhouse

Heard Traders Hotel has good ones too, I just have not been there.

As for Shang, between the lunch and hi tea…the hi tea will pale in comparison.

Equinox hi tea also not bad
