news like this make me more appreciative of political stability in a country (with a clean govt).

Just like one can always find dust and pests in a house, cleaning is a never ending job.
Maintaining a clean govt is also a never ending job.
Once a while, dust and pests do find their way into a clean house.
Let's be more patient with the housekeeper.

      😉
News like this make us more aware of the skeletons in the closet, which usually appears when a new contractor is appointed to clean house.

Sometimes, dust and pests are hidden under the carpet, in the corner hidden from view, etc but on the surface, everything looks nice, clean and efficient. What truly hides in between is everyone's guess, until it bursts out in the open.
Maintaining a clean government is a never ending job, but being too trusting is also no good, especially when the housekeeper is professing to ownself check ownself.

The irony being that political instability is not necessary bad, and political stability is not necessary good.

It is good to have a regular audit and a real checker. When one stays in the same job for too long, "know-it-all" and complacency attitude comes in.

It’s also a bad thing when the main housekeeper is not meritocratic and chooses the wrong person as successor, choosing to side with a chinese bloke that is an ex war chief but incapable of intellectual aspects of refinement vs the experienced Indian old hand well liked by more than him for fear of bring outshone. Not fair to the contracting party who are not paying peanuts for mediocre work and reasonably should be given the best man for the job.

Hee hee hee. Still got time for citizens to apply pressure on said housekeeper to select the right successor. You want to start a petition?

I may be OT here - is there a prejudice opinion against SAF personnel moving into govt office posts or heading SMRT?

The dissent opinions are based on one’s personal knowledge of the other person’s lack in character, calibre or simply based on "I hate his face"?

I have my boys coming back from school and poured grievances on me. When I asked whether they spoke to the person in charge, I was told no point doing so, the person wont listen. I do not understand my boys’ rationale.

Jen, sometimes it’s the gap between ideal and reality.

I agree there is a difference between ideal and reality.
I feel that one can work towards better the reality to close the gap.
To work towards improving, communication is a key.
If one chooses to shut up, then it is a lose-lose situation to all.

Depends on who the recipient is? Esp for those who love power, the more you ask for something, the more they enjoy thumbing you down or humiliating you. Not everyone nice and reasonable, especially if the other party is of a weaker position. They will show a different face if the request comes from a person of equal or higher position.
