I think our govt also taking full advantage of his 'clean' image and rapport with the masses. He was even called to make announcement regarding the interim effort to tackle the floods recently when we actually have another ministry overseeing this!!!Instead of Kee Chiu, I think among all the ministers now, the one with \"most\" hear is the Manpower Minister, Tan Chuan Jin. I followed him on FB. From the posts that he put up, seems like he really has the heart to help. Anyone of you stays in his constituency? if so, can raise it up to him.

How about Ms Denise Phua? From what the PM said about the effective lobbying and setup for Pathlight, Ms Phua has done a good job. The thought did occurred to me after reading the PM's speech at the Pathlight 10th anniversary that perhaps Ms Phua should consolidate and fight for all the SPED schools in SG?tyeogh:
Maybe one of us can bring it up to that kueh lapis guy.....tell him we are not biting his cake.......

For me, I have stopped complaining about the lack of help and financial support although I try to raise it whenever I have the opportunity to speak to people who work in MOE or MSF. And recently on the Internet, I came across a MSF master plan drawn up by a committee. All the problems that u all have raised here are noted in the master plan and in one of the recommendations to the government, the committee suggests letting MOE oversee the special needs schools instead of parking it under MSF so that there will be a consistent education standard. I believe the government is aware of all the issues we raised, is just how high a priority is it for them to really work on the solutions.
Also agree that Pathlight should come under the MOE if it not already is. -

I know a child in Pathlight who is also diagnosed to have Dyslexia. The child attends program in Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), and the parents have to pay full fee of about $1000+ per term. Kids attending mainstream schools receive subsidy and pay half of the fee. Reason for no subsidy being that the child is in a SPED school! As if we parents like and choose our children to be of special needs! Being ASD and studying in Pathlight, forking out $420 per month is already tough enough, and still being penalized for attending a SPED school thus cannot receive subsidy at DAS?! On the other hand, those mainstream dyslexic children whose parents are probably bankers, lawyers, doctors, CEO who are earning big money get to pay half of the fee? This is absurd, right? Does that mean for those dyslexic Pathlighters should withdraw and attend mainstream schools so as to get the subsidy when attending program at DAS? If my child were to be dyslexic too, I'll choose Pathlight over DAS, as we can't afford to pay both agents, not forgetting that there are still other therapies fees to incur. Really disheartening when I learnt about this case from a mother...
:whut: No! :yikes:
I may just push boy into mainstream school and spend the money for one-to-one tuition for him. Be very thick skin, no matter what the school says, \"pa si buay zhao\". :nunchuk: -

LoL! Pa si buay zhao! But I recommend you be smart about it. If the state is not going to help you (much), you might as well go the SPED path and when he turns 18, claim that he will shoot friendlies when he tantrums. They might exempt him from NS!

If given opportunity how many of you guys would like to move to US? I think there are more opportunities for special need kids, any thought?

I thought of so many ways I can reply you but none of it is suitable to be printed in a family forum like this so I will just give you the standard reply. LPPL lor.
Personally, the country should be providing an appropriate education or training at NO additional cost to her citizens up to the age of 16, or even 18. This is the very least it can do for every citizen. Why should SPED be charged differently? -

You mean they are not exempted from ns?!

I believe our Special kids have a choice to join NS or not. But even if they join, they will do clerical work and no need to go IPPT.
