Manuka Honey

Is it advisable for children below 2?

You may wish to check with the paeditrician. DD with drug allergy + other sensitivity is allergic to honey when younger. Bad tummyache and diarrhoea after drinking honey. The symptoms only ease till nearly 12.

Hi,
I've read this topic since page 1 and am impressed of the discussion. I recently both my first bottle at unity and just want to share my exprience. Both myself and my friends are taking 1 teaspoon in the morning, empty stomach.
For her, after taking it for 2 days, coughing and phlegm where out.
For myself, being type 2 diabetes, i monitor my sugar closely. Sugar level does not spike at all. -
Hi anyone,
My DD always have some sorethroat and phlegm.
I have read through the first 20 or 30 pages. Can I summarize that the most popular brands bought here in Singapore are:
1. HNZ
2. Manuka Health
3. Comvita
How about Haddrell of Cambridge? Is that ok?
How about the UMF. Should we go for UMF 10+ or UMF 15+
Any advice would be much appreciated?
Cheers -
Considering the hefty price to pay, it is such a shame that most of this excellent honey are packaged in PLASTIC containers! Anyone knows of any brand of Manuka honey that comes in glass bottles?

Hi litmuspaper,
The Non Peroxide Activity level of a Manuka honey determine how strong and potent of the Manuka honey at fighting bacterial infections and inflammations. Hence, a rating has been introduced to determine the therapeutic potency of Manuka honey. It is generally accepted that Manuka honey with a NPA rating of 10 or above is appropriate for therapeutic use. The higher the rating, the higher its therapeutic properties.
So if you are taking manuka honey for therapeutic use, you should consume those with at least NPA 10+. Hope this helps. -

Hi, just to share… there are only a handful of Manuka honey suppliers in NZ… they sold the honey in barrels, in tons, to different brands, those so called manufacturers to package and market… most of the familiar brands in the market are sourcing their honey from the same supplier. There isn’t really much difference, really.
UMF 15+ and above are not allowed to export by the NZ authority. If you see UMF 25+ selling outside NZ, that’s probably a bluff, or smuggled. -
Hope I haven't been conned
I bought Blue Hills (Tasmanian) UMF25+ for $51+ (50ml bottle) from the food festival @ Expo last year (there was a 20% discount). Thought I got a good deal.
This is not the brand of Manuka Honey I usually get though.
