Admummy,

yes, my son in P2K, he told me the same. 4 kids including himself joined 2J yesterday for Chinese. I was puzzled too.

Mine gg to 2A, think we'll get a better picture during the Morning with Teachee on 19 Jan..hopefully my gal know her way to the new classroom...dun really like this idea of having to \"change class\" during chinese period, I think very disruptive and time wasting...by the time the class settle down, I think almost half period gone ..

This is due to Chinese banding. Where kids are group according to their Chinese abilities. The grouping is derived from their P1 CL results. It will stay that way till P6 but every year it will change depending on their performance. The CL class is in the form of eg. CL7, CL8, CL9.

If your child did well, most likely posted to a good CL class. The kids will usually be told if they are in the best, 2nd, etc... The better they are, the bigger the class size.

So for kids who are weaker in CL, the class size will be much smaller.
OIC, thks for the info MMM! Will ask my gal how big is her CL class..frankly without the class ranking sys now, I dun even know where my gal stands in terms of academic results in class.

POA Teacher:

Thinking of renewing my indo maid whose contract expiring in Jun. There are so many changes to the law. I don't want to go through maid agency, can anyone enlighten me what is the procedure now? Is it just renew the work permit? What about going to the Indo Embassy? Still need to go there, do up a work contract and sign in front of the officials? What is the minimum pay now, is the minimum pay amount compulsory to follow or just as a guide? My maid was employed before the minimum wage amount was set hence it was relatively low starting pay (plus she has totally no experience as a maid). If I were to apply the minimum wage amount on her, this would mean a pay rise of about 25%! To be frank, i don't think she deserve such a huge pay rise coz her work attitude still needs a lot of improvement. I wanted to extend her contract because I wanna save the hassle of retraining and eliminate the waiting period. I may just need her for another one year only so renewing her contract is more appropriate than getting a new maid (by default two years contract). Would appreciate comments and advice from you all please. Thanks!

I think:
Just go to MOM website and follow the instructions for renewing the permit yourself eg get insurance, apply to MOM online
If your maid's passport still has another year's validity (since you said you only need her for one more year), you don't need to go to the embassy.
Minimum of $450 for new Indon maids is what the Indon authorities trying to enforce. What you pay to your maid is entirely by agreement between yourself and the maid. Why won't you pay her the $450 at least? She may not be a perfect maid, but she can't be that bad since you would like to renew her contract.
Do you think the new girls coming in on salaries of $450 are all better than her?
Btw, she has working experience as a maid, 1 1/2 yrs of it, in your home. If she were to get a new employer instead of renewing with you, she'll be able to command a salary of $500 at least.

Thks for ur reply and advice 🙂 Yah agree with u that she shld be paid at least the min pay to be fair to her..frankly I'm still hesitating abt renewing her contract.. since i need to fork out at least $450 (both new or renew old) maybe I shld just get a new maid and start afresh..

MMM & lostbunny,

any price difference buying books from Popular or school bookshop? Prefer to buy from Popular since it can be done online and include delivery too...as for the exercise book, must ask my gal to buy it on Wed from the bookshop since it is the last day of the school (even though official term ends on 16 Nov)..btw does the school bookshop open daily? TIA..

I just checked the p4's book list against the popular website. It is slightly cheaper to get the books online at the popular website. According to the booklist, the selling dates are:
P2: 26th, 28th nov
P3: 27th, 29th nov
P4: 28th, 30th nov
P5: 26th, 29th nov
P6: 27th, 30th nov

All levels (p1 to p6): 1st dec, 3-7 dec, 10-14 dec

Mon-fri: 9am to 3.30pm
Sat: 9am-12pm

Apparently we can also order Books online at http://www.huntforbooks.com from 19 nov. can choose from self collection or home delivery. Pricing wise not sure if it will be cheaper. Haven't check.

lostbunny, thank you very much for the info!
Parents with kid gg P2 next yr, have you guys receive the booklist for next year? Can I order online via Popular website or must go down to the school like P1 Orientation? How about school uniform? Tomorrow 8 Nov is it no school for all children due to Marks Processing Day? TIA..

Hi, have not receive it yet.

For this year, i intend to get the textbooks from popular. For those exercise books, was thinking of getting the older kids to buy before school closes. But if not possible, at most just go back to school to get the exercise books during the designated dates.

The bookshop operator is no longer popular. Personally, we (+ kids) prefer popular for product range.

Hi MMM,
My p3 receive his booklist today. I bought the exercise books already. The auntie asked me why never buy textbooks :p.
MMM & lostbunny,
