      Thanks sembgal.

Your words are very encouraging to me. My ds has difficulty in speaking & writing. Simple everyday words also don’t understand. So far he is doing fine in TH but afraid he can’t keep up with the standard.

      Thanks nicnac & porky pig.

Is the normally lesson good enough? What is the difference in the writing component between the normal class & oral/writing class?
My ds is extremely weak in CL, I am thinking ahead if I should load him more CL lessons when he is older…
Btw, does school results be better with aid of TH?

      Hi hquek,

      Thanks for the advice!
My boy never goes through icl program before. He only joins in k2 this yr after the home based teachers ceased icl service. So I can say the teacher don’t use icl material anymore. Frankly speaking, I find the materials so-so.
Previously, I sent my boy to icr & lctrl for assessment… He can skip the foundation class to join P1 prep class. But at that point of assessment, he was only k1. For icr, there is no class available as all are full. For lctrl, I really loves the materials, but he wasn’t cooperative as the class work is too much for his age…
As I know at such age, kids is easily distracted & may not be attentive in large group… He is currently attending a math class where 2 teachers coach different levels at the same time. I think there are about 10 kids in the class but there are times where my boy will inform me these kids disturb one another. I also saw him fool around at times… So I wonder how TAS copes?
Another thing is, how significant can the results be under TAS? I do have high expectations as I know my boy is not weak in this subject & I acknowledge the importance of the subject.

      Hi hquek,

Thanks for the input especially your kids are there experiencing it. 🙂
Well, I am not sure which atas centre you are referring... For those centres that I have checked with, the class size is about 8-10 with similar fee. These centre also have impressive materials & they engage native teachers. These locations are also better. I am also concern about the attention the teacher can give to each kid. Why I didn't choose these centres? Its because I can't make it to send my boy to the class as I am working. Frankly speaking, I registered my boy to ex-ICL home based teacher due to the convenience & it is 'all-in-one' class too. But I am keeping my choice open. I want to give my boy a suitable class. He is not weak in EL, but there is much to learn. I also need to consider ahead the need to sign up CW class in future. Rest time for my little one is so scarce as he has other classes to attend.

    • RE: The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

      Hi Tas,

I have made some enquiries recently. After some thoughts, I have new questions…
      1) may I know why is the class size so big? How many teachers will be in the class to coach the kids?
      2) Personally, I find that the fee is too steep for such big class size as compared to BC, ICR, etc. I have yet to visit the centre but based on the fee, I imagine that the centre is well furnished with great materials for the kids like the mentioned centres. But from the past feedback here, the classroom is cramp. My concern here is will the class be too noisy & comfortable enough for 2hrs?
      3) I see that there are more classes forming due to demand so I am assuming new teachers are recruited. Will these teachers deliver the standards & expectations?

My question is - how will labeling the child helps?

My view is that it doesn't unless you need it for something like school admission, funded therapy etc. My daughter (now 17yo) had some ASD traits which we noticed even when she was quite young, but we just dealt with them as they occurred. Like you with your child, we found that she was a late developer in many ways, but would more or less catch up later after we spent time helping her. We did 'therapy' without seeking a diagnosis or professional help. It worked for us, and may work for others who have the time and confidence/pig-headedness to try it, but that route is not for everyone. She has always been in mainstream school, struggling somewhat in many ways, but generally keeping up. We don't set high expectations, which probably has made it possible for her to manage. We only had her diagnosed at 14yo because teachers became less willing to accommodate her without a definitive diagnosis. But I do stress that this is only for those willing to take the risk of not availing themselves of professional help.

Thanks for the info. But sounds like sooner or later I will have to face the assessment if it is autism.
I thought it is normal for a boy to progress slower... Recently, my 6yo starts his curiosity phase & asks many whys. I believe it is milestone for age of 4-5yo. To me, it is slow but at least on the track.
From what I know, autism can't be cured but can be overcome. One will learnt to realise 'things work this way' & will gradually adjustment oneself to accommodate such way.

      Hi parents,

I have little knowledge on autism. My boy is suspected to be autistic by the doctors & recommend me to go for the assessment. But I didn't. I asked a few parents who put their kids for it & their feedback are the assessment confirmed their kids as autistic but it does not indicate how severe is the child's conditions. To me, I see my boy as normal but with development delays (maybe 1yr) as compared to his peer. All the lacked skills for his appropriate age seems to be overcome subsequently when he is much older.
The major doctor merely got my child to do the same thing (which he already knew how to do it at much younger age), to write A-Z & draws some lines on both appointments (about 6 months apart). She even asked me if I have ever cross my mind to consider pathlight school! I suppose such school should reserve for those who need it more?! The main issue is his social skill as addressed by the professionals. My only concern is my child be bullied or taken advantage of by others as he is a kind being.
Any parents here have similar issue as me?
My question is - how will labeling the child helps?

Why see a doctor when you do not trust his recommendation? I am not sure if any forum-er here is more qualified than a doctor but good luck on your search 🙂

A GP refers my boy for hyperactive. But was later suspect for autism traits.
Frankly speaking, I do not see my boy autistic not hyperactive. The GP persuaded me to seek attention early. So I just go with the flow but finds it ridiculous that the professionals keep asking what is my concern which I do not have.
