RE: kids alone at home
my kid already stay alone at home for more than 6 mth. And so far coping well. Sometimes he will request to go downstair and cycle in the park with his friends.
momkiasu:
I allow my kids to stay at home alone, given that they have no homework to finish and promises they do not go anywhere without notifying me or my husband. My eldest son is currently 16 and i entrust him with taking care of my other 2 kids. I feel its also good to give them some trust and freedom to learn to be independent but with an eye kept on them.

yes it's relatively expensive.. and he go to student student less than 3 days due to remedial and extra lesson. so i decided to let him withdrawoptimistforum:
After school, here in England, offers basic activities with no fun nor enrichment activities. Lazt staff sitting on their fat arses get children to tidy up, something that they themselves are paid to do. Here a 13 year old child can be alone at home and be responsible for younger siblings.
Here in Singapore, after school care is very expensive and kiasu parents will cry father cry mother until the lazy staff get fired. :scared: Difference here is a 13 year old who is home alone can be quite lonely but don't have responsibility to take care of siblings because he or she is alone.

he used to be in student care. but after i enrol him for tuition i stop his student care as the cost is over my limit. How about student care service?
I asked my students before about their feelings having to go to a student care. They told me they really enjoy their time there and they actually learn a lot of advanced things which the classroom teacher usually has not much time to teach.
I think it is also beneficial to their social development.
You may want to check with the school teacher whether they have any lobang for student care services. -

i staying with my parents with both working. that's y i have no other alternative.Does the school have after-school care services? I understand that most schools now have student-care service which is usually cheaper.
If your child is matured, putting him alone could work but make sure he is really, really safe. Plan a timetable WITH him and make sure he follows through it so that his time is spent wisely at home while waiting for you to come back.
I have some friends who leave their children at their in-laws place or their own parents' place while they are working. Do you have these options to consider? Personally, I feel that a child alone at home is very poor thing. I think we may have to consider the emotional aspect of it too. Independence can still be built in other ways. -
