      Hi all

can i find out what's the average rate for school bus nowadays? Any difference with different level, i.e. more expensive for PNG and gets cheaper as the child grows older?

      hi anastashia,
i think the rate of sch bus is dependent on the size of the bus (ie whether got seatbelt or 'share' seatbelt), distance and maybe demand(?). my nursery boy's sch bus fare is $85 for 2 way. his church kindergarten is within 2km from my place. theirs is a mini bus with seatbelt for individual student.

Mine is $150 2 ways, a mini van that can sit no more than 10 kids, individual seatbelt, less than 2 km distance. Next year need to increase $10 some more, because the press said so. 😢

GEP = Gifted Education Program, in Primary school, starting P4 to P6

GEPers are kids under GE programe

pupils go through 2 rounds of test in Pri 3 and the top 1% are selected to enroll in the GE program run by MOE via a few selected GEP centres, many of which are SAP schools.

SAP = Special Assistance Program. SAP school kids usually do both EL & CL at first language level (HCL). SAP is a legacy of the Chinese medium schools system. NYPS is a SAP school, RGPS is not, though both are GEP centres

If not mistaken, there are 9 GEP centres in S'pore, these are the usual hot & popular pri schools in every year's Pri 1 registration exercise

Students who qualify for GEP but own school is not a GEP centre will be transfer to a GEP school nearest to home. However, qualified GEP kid can choose to decline the program and continue in the mainstream

Recently, certain schools started to inter mingle the high ability class with GEP class
Wow so much to digest just bout primary school system. it's so different from my time already!!!

So SJK deliver more GEPers kids because of better curriculum? I am a parent who believe children should still have fun learning, more general knowledge, rather than studying. They've a lifetime to study and why do we have to tie them them with rigid education system when they are so young, energetic and curious???

i am going to send my child to primary school in 4 years time, but i feel i have to start reading up and knowing more about this education system. wat a rat race!!! Personally i am really not impressed.

Anyway, wish to get advice. My husband is from NYPS. So does that mean my daughter will automatically get a place in the school? I called up the school and they said MOST LIKELY i’ll get a place for her in the school. And the school admin was suggesting my husband may wish joining the alumni to get a higher priority which cost $1000 for lifetime!!!

It produces quite a lot of GEPers.

pardon my ignorance, what does GEPers stand for?

Up till now i'm not sure what's so good bout this kindy. I enrolled my children there cos it's near my home, many of my friends' children are enrolled there and said it's good kindy. When i asked how do you quantify that the school is good, they generally said their children enjoy themselves.

So why is this school so popular?

If i have the cash, i'd prefer send my children to Chiltern. My girl was in Julia Gabriel and i thot that the teachers and classroom environment is so much more fun and bubbly. But Chiltern is too expensive.

yea. i really find BM is so precious. I spoke to an immunology professor and he insisted that to reduce the onset of allergy would be to exclusively feed newborn with BM till they’re 6mths.
