Snow Crystal:phtthp:do RGS, NYGH, NJC give warning to transfer child out of IP programme, if child can't cope by Sec 2 ?There are cases of retention for those who can't cope in RGS and NYGH but very very rare and few. Not sure of NJC.Don't know if there's \"warning\" given. But there's no retention scheme.

MdmKS:What do we call food outlet like Celede, Delifrance, Coffee bean in Chinese? Do we call them 快餐店????? :? :?: I think the food outlet in the CL oral day 2 is some kind like this ...Anyone input ?The teacher went through the oral with DD's class today. Apparently, the model answer is fast food restaurant. But guess this terminology should only be a small part of the whole oral exam, so long as the child describes the details of the pictures correctly, should not be too heavily penalized.

hoskins8h:ApronMama:Then can someone enlighten me why NJC cut-off is higher than HCI (exclude HCL), given HCI after DSA still has more vacancies than NJC ?My guess is that there are significantly more IP single-gender places for boys than for girls. For boys, there's RI, HCI, ACS(I)? For girls RGS, NYG. NYG with many affliated students will have a raised COP. So girls with scores below RGS/NYG cut-off will naturally apply to NJC, DHS, maybe RVH (less popular because of distance). NJC, DHS girl:boy ratio is 2:1. MOE has closed the IP doors, so some of the good girl schools (eg St Nics, MGS, SCGS) have had their IP application rejected.POSITIONS IN IP SCHOOLSBoysRI: 450HCI : 450ACSI : 180Catholic High: 170 (start from 2013)SJI : 125 (start from 2013)Victoria : 160Subtotal: 1535 (DSA, ≤768; Available for S1, 767)GirlsMGS : 60 (start from 2013)SCGS : 120 (start from 2013)St Nicholas : 170 (start from 2013)Cedar Girls : 160Nanyang Girls : 400RGS : 450 Subtotal: 1360 (DSA, ≤680; Available for S1, 680)Co-edTJC : 150 (start from 2013)Dunman High : 400 NJC : 200 NUS High : 150-170 (almost full by DSA)River Valley High : 400 Subtotal: 1320 (DSA, ≤745; Available for S1,  575)Total: 4215 (start from 2013, 795; DSA, ~2193; Available for S1,  2022)Top 3% pupils in 2013, 1150 (COP, 262 based on EESIS)Top 5% pupils in 2013, 2417Top 10% pupils in 2013, 4833

ApronMama:Thanks for responding. Wonder if it is OK to install a CCTV to watch them/their safety since no others are at home. Any parent does that?sorry if i sound rude. But I think it is the worst ever idea to put cctv to watch them. If my parents were to put them, I will only have 1 thought in mind...\"They don't trust me.\" Most probably you won't trust a person who you think they don't trust you?Just my opinion=/

Saw in the organisations that I worked before that depending on the trust between the employee and their bosses, there can be a open communication where an employee express their desire to be retrenched.Provided that the relationship between the employee and his/ her boss is fine, the boss will actually recommend the employee for retrenchment. It really depends on the situation. In alot of retrenchment exercise, there is usually a headcount reduction target. Sometimes, it’s driven by number of heads to retrench rather than cost impact. So to meet the numbers, the boss might "gladly" retrench someone who has the desire to be retrench.Meanwhile for the package, it really depends on the company. In some org that believed in treating employees fairly, they will not stinge on those retrenchment benefits.
I always wonder why there has been no mention about giving working mother BAS subsidy in the list of bonus to encourage our people to have more children.
Subsidy for BASC has no direct relation to having more babies. Govt already has more withdrawal from medisave for IVF, cash grant for 1st baby to alleviate some of the heavy expenses, cash grant for 2nd baby to encourage those with 1 child to go on for 2nd one.

csc:My cousin is a teacher in Malaysia. In the school that she is teaching, supplementary or remedial classes are conducted by the school for the students at a fee. The fee is paid to the school teacher conducting it. Usually , the school will match the class teachers to her students. However, the pay for teachers in M'sia is not high - this is perhaps a measure to supplement their income. If this were our own teachers, i'd say its a valid reason to run privatetuition for your own students or students from other schools.Tks for this reference csc.If my child was not doing well in school, and i find out the teacher hastime to run her own tuition, i wud not feel it may not be in the best interest of the children in her class. Her responsibility is still to make her 1st career from our schools... working under our education ministry... to put forth maximum effort for children under her care and make sure theyachieve maximum potential with her time. If once extra $$$ comes into the picture (and plus no deduction for CPF and such), the said teacher may be distracted from her primary role serving our education systemto the fullest.Unless, if in another point of view the said teacher has written in to the school and ministry to request permission to run tuition outside the schhours and allowed to... say on the basis of being a sole-income provideras an example... but without compromising on the quality of teaching and efforts to the children within the sch hours (subject to appraisal),i wud probably close one eye. Cos, i do know of popular teachers whocan run tuition classes and earn more than what they receive for theirmonthly salary.. With less children at one sitting and maybe relativelysimilar number of working hours per day, one wud definitely pay moreattention to the grp that brings in more $$$, right...I dunno. It has not happened to me personally...So, i'm just brainstorming the different scenarios froma different perspective, and not determining whether itshould be done or should not be allowed at all.
